Black Water Lilies: A stunning, twisty murder mystery
Black Water Lilies: A stunning, twisty murder mystery

4.0 out of 5 stars As dark as the Lilies!, 9 Sept. 2017

I was riveted from the outset. So many twists and turns, strange yet engaging characters, kept the pace strong and interesting. The final denouement was welcomed but the penultimate to this was just a little more difficult to follow. I understood who everyone was, but there just seemed to be something missing. The reader is left guessing rather than having a little logic by which to unravel the final thoughts. I was also pleased that I was able to work out who the perpetrator was fairly early on although I did need the read to the end to have this confirmed. Jolly good read.

Another winner from the pen of Karen and Tom. I think the title is superb. A little darker than previous books, and still full of intrigue and mystery. This was a real page turner and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. A total success, which I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars The good, the bad, and the survivors!, 18 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great read, lots of familiar and many new characters all woven neatly into this tale of good people, bad people and those who, somehow, survive what life throws at them. Insight into police who cannot see the truth, because they are blinded by prejudice. Then there is the damage caused by gossip. Excellent mystery, solved very ably - and a few loose threads to make one want to get on with reading the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Drizzling with untruths!, 13 Aug. 2017

Another good read. Lots of characters including the village worthies who help both to spin the yarn and muddy the water. Decent storyline if, perhaps lacking a lot of depth, but well written , with sufficient clues and nuances to keep the reader interested. Recommend this to while away a couple of afternoons!

This has to be the worst book I have ever read. I have so enjoyed other Veronica Henry books but this is an insult. Full of seriously weak women ready to jump into bed with the first guy who looks at them twice ... because they are bored; stuck in an unhappy relationship .. get real. Women are far more capable of living an independent life than this portrayal while a little romance is fine - chapter after chapter of explicit sexual conquests is just so uninteresting. Very disappointed that this was the best VH could write! Would not recommend - not even as a holiday read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Living the dream!, 29 July 2017

I really enjoyed this book. It was a gently happy (mostly) story filled with interesting characters whose lives were entwined by accident, fate or design. Great holiday read with no violence, bad language or dreadful grammar. Highly recommend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lies, lifts and lost souls!, 18 July 2017

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Full of interesting character, loads of twists and turns, truths and untruths and misinformation which all add up to a great piece of writing. However, I find the use of phonetics in the direct speech of the characters with accents a little condescending. Totally unnecessary and adding nothing to the text. It is important for the reader to create their own image of the characters, not have everything forced upon one. These characters had accents with vocal and cultural differences it is not essential to spell this out! Otherwise fantastic book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lights, camera, action!, 7 July 2017

As always a jolly cosy murder mystery. I enjoyed the story line and the setting in the film industry. The plot was suitable convoluted and the characters excellent. The only downside, for me, were the many typographical errors and a. Outlet of times the character was called by the wrong name. Otherwise a great read.

4.0 out of 5 stars art for revenge !, 6 Jun. 2017

Another light and entertaining story, with Tiffany sorting it all,out in the end. I do wish she was not such a greedy pig. No one needs to eat two muffins at one sitting and this extravagance is a tad boring! She also comes across as a bit desperate where men are concerned. Otherwise some interesting characters and a decent plot to keep the pages turning.
