5.0 out of 5 stars Find that Vein, 13 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whether you're a doctor or a drug addict, this tourniquet will help you find that elusive vein for banging in whatever takes your fancy. Hours of satisfaction and delight can be had be defying the odds when all seems lost. Use it on your patients, friends, family, strangers who provide implied consent, just about whoever has a pulse. Disposable tourniquets are only useful where veins are healthy and large; this product gives you access to veins that are otherwise not reachable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sociology at it's finest, 6 April 2014
This film is probably the greatest film of all time in term of sociology. The framework employed is that of a road trip, the objective being to showcase the diversity of lifestyles present at the given time. The film illustrates the variation in values held by people in an era when traditions were being rejected as obsolescent. The film would make a fantastic study for sociology students interested in the function of traditions in society. Most fascinating is the way that the only true example of real happiness in the film is seen in the one example of the family who have held onto their traditional values and lifestyle - the Catholic farming family; everyone else is persecuted in some way or other. There is a strong moral theme running through the film although it's impossible to say whether it was intentional or not. Unfortunately a lot of people simply see this film as a stoner film - one to watch after smoking hash, this is understandable given it's picturesque nature and atmosphere, but this is a shallow interpretation which does the film a huge injustice given that it's real beauty is intellectual. Leaving aside the fact that film created the genre of the road trip and caused waves socially, this film has got to be considered one of the most important of the twentieth century as a passive commentary on the emergence of cultural modernity and the perils that accompany lifestyle experimentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars This film derseves a noble prize, 6 April 2014
This film is one of the greatest works of art of the twentieth century. This film should be played on repeat in the Louvre on a larges screen in a room by itself every day of the year. It is one of the greatest achievements of humankind. Each scene has a depth of meaning which is like a piece of Shakespearian poetry. Each character is as real as a sibling. This film is a treatise on western culture, a critique of civilisation, an exploration of hypocrisy. The psychology of this film captures the complexity of human nature. Visually the film is spectacular, each set crafted perfectly with one of the simplest yet best soundtracks ever. To have not seen this film is to be a philistine.

Charlie Wilson's War [DVD]

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, 6 April 2014
This review is from: Charlie Wilson's War [DVD] (DVD)
This film successfully tells the story of a politician that has largely been forgotten despite a most remarkable career. To fully appreciate this film one needs to study the real life of Charlie Wilson and listen to some interviews that he did, in particular one with the BBC. This film illustrates how unnecessary fiction is given how strange the truth can be. Surprisingly Tom Hanks does not ruin this film. It is a little rough around the edges in terms of style but the background to it more than compensates.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fabricated, 6 April 2014
Being a true story, high expectations are justified. The actual story is truly remarkable but would have been more suited to a documentary than an action thriller; as a result the producers had to play with the timeline in order to create the most improbable co-incidences that are supposed to produce moments of intense anxiety. In reality the events could not possibly have came down to split second moments moments and anyone who knows the story or has a reasonable sense of reality appreciates the artificial sculpting involved. On top of that the characters are not well developed and the atmosphere is lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleasant, 6 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This documentary weaves several different themes into one another seamlessly in a beautiful story of a record label that has definitely touched your life unless you've been living in a cave somewhere in Afghanistan since 1970. The documentary uses a specific piece of technology - the Neve mixer as a corner stone around which the story of music and people are anchored. Essential watching for anyone interested in the modern history of music. It is remarkably informative and makes connections between people groups and styles of music that are both surprising and captivating. It's examination of music technology is fascinating regardless of whether you are watching as someone who enjoys the featured music or not. The soundtrack itself is a catalogue of favourites that have by now been mostly forgotten by the mainstream media. Unfortunately the documentary does become a little self-indulgent and sentimental by going beyond the history and filming the making of a new tribute album which is heavy in feeling, completely empty in lyrical content and stinking to high heaven with ego.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius!, 4 April 2014

This comedy production is possibly the best in a generation. The brilliance of it is the reality that it captures. It is completely realistic - almost like a distillation of reality, exposing the hypocrisy and stupidity of people. This series could be used as a primary source to study modern culture, it touches of a very wide array of areas and penetrates each with an insight which amazes as much as amuses. Focusing on a generation of people that have nothing to worry about but no proper sense of purpose either, this series explores the day to day lives of lost souls buffeted around in a cosmopolitan jungle - all searching for something, all self consumed in their search.

One of the greatest films ever made. This film is completely realistic, such that you know as you watch it that every scene is being played out somewhere at any given time somewhere in the world if not the UK. The indexical nature of the human condition is perfectly captured in the character of the protagonist who is both brutal, violent and despicable but also supportive and loyal. This film provides a magnificent window into the world of the working class; it is the ultimate cultural reference point for sociological discussion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't watch it, 4 April 2014

This is possible one of the most slow moving films I've ever seen. I don't like action films but I don like something to happen. My threshold for boredom was exceeded and I turned it off. I imagine that the film may have something to offer but I lacked the concentration span.
