4.0 out of 5 stars Good camera, less good quality., 5 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After the summer I decided to buy a CSC to complement my Nikon DSLR, which is too heavy to carry around a lot of the time. After plenty of research I purchased the Sony A6000. A couple of weeks into using it, I found myself retouching spots in the same places, in almost every picture I made. They were 7 or 8 in number, almost identical, about 70 pixels in diameter, and it wasn't possible to clean them off the sensor. Thanks to Amazon's brilliant customer service, I had a replacement within a day. But after a day or two with the replacement I found myself retouching spots again. This time 4 of them, but same size, shape, and texture. The camera was returned, and I went for a Nikon D5500 instead.

My impressions of the two cameras is that the D5500 beats the A6000 in every respect, except auto-focus - the intelligent, multi-point focus of the Sony is a real advantage. The A6000 battery life is really poor, and the 16-50 kit lens supplied is not worth getting. Strangely, the first kit lens was almost ok, but the one that came with the replacement produced so much distortion, that it made many pictures unusable.

The D5500 weighs only 200g more than the A6000, and in my configurations with 16-85 and 18-105 zoom lenses, respectively, the optics constitutes the bulk of the weight. The D5000 plus 16-85 costs less than £60 more, currently, than the A6000 plus 18-105.

I ended up with a better camera for almost the same price. However, the A6000 is a strong contender but, performance aside, it doesn't measure up to Nikon in quality of components or build. And I carry the Nikon around just as easily as the A6000, in the Lowepro Event Messenger 150.

Hope that helps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent bag to protect against dust and grime, 2 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good for protection of the camera, but a pain to get on and off for shooting. So more of a travel bag than for use while the camera is in use. The material feels like a diving wetsuit, so not the sturdiest protection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, 9 Mar. 2015

Bought this for triple monitor support on my Mac. I needed to contact the manufacturer to get a download link for OS X 10.10 driver, but installation was as smooth as anything on a Mac, and it works perfectly. Great product.

Building Winning Algorithmic Trading Systems + Website: A Trader's Journey From Data Mining to Monte Carlo Simulation to Live Trading (Wiley Trading)

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story, but flawed as an instruction manual, 3 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This reads as a sometimes moving personal account of one man's trading journey, and it gives the details of the strategy with which Kevin Davey won the Futures Trading Championship. This highlights, in particular, the too big risks/drawdowns taken to achive the impressive annual returns. In other words, don't do it with your own or your clients' money. Also, the story gives insight into the psychology of Davey as a speculator.

The book also wants to teach the art and science of developing algorithmic trading systems. I found this part to be very poor. It doesn't go into significant depth, and it reveals the author's sometimes shallow knowledge. For example, the author claims to use Monte Carlo simulation to test trading systems, but the way he does it (by permuting his set of trades) tests the money management strategy rather than the trading strategy. Further, it assumes that trades are serially uncorrelated, which is the exact opposite of the phenomenon that Monte Carlo simulation testing of trading systems is meant to test. It is well known that trade outcomes are serially correlated, and this is exactly what proper MC testing is supposed to test. Specifically, does the trading system catch the serial correlation in the market data in a profitable and statistically significant way?

If all you are interested in is learning how to do algo trading, stay away from this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment, 10 Jan. 2015

We have thoroughly enjoyed Clearspring's Sencha Green Tea, and we bought this Matcha based on that, but what a disappointment! The colour is dull, and the smell...to quote our ten-year-old, "that stinks". The taste is in line with that. This product is going in the compost.

Inov-8 Trailroc 245 Trail Running Shoes - 9.5
Inov-8 Trailroc 245 Trail Running Shoes - 9.5

5.0 out of 5 stars Buying my second pair, 2 July 2014
I've had a pair of Trailroc 245 for a year, and I've never liked a pair of running shoes as much. The fit and comfort has been pure pleasure, and the durability is excellent. Only the midsole shows signs of use, whereas the rest of the shoe could have been going for much longer. The shoes are perfect for moderately rough trails and terrain, and sole delivers an excellent trade-off between proprioception and protection. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Questionable trade-off between compactness and sound quality, 18 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to replace my Harman/Kardon Soundsticks, which have given up after years of excellent service and some hard handling. And I was hoping for a comparable experience, but the sound quality is not by any means close to that of the Soundsticks, which, being in the same price range, would be the product to go for if sound quality is all you care about. I'll be keeping these, for the reason of portability, but I feel like I've compromised on sound quality. The people writing all the raving reviews about this product cannot possibly have much in terms of quality audio equipment to compare against.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful, 5 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I own several fountain pens, some several times more expensive than this one, but the LAMY studio has quickly become my favourite. It writes so well, the feeling of pen against paper is exquisite, and the extra fine nib allows for subtle detail. It is stylish with a solid quality feel without being the least ostentatious, and a now dear companion for my daily writing.

The package shipped by Amazon also contained the Z26 ink converter as well as a single cartridge with blue ink.

Even if you like the print mag, stay away from this app.

The presentation of the content is of very poor quality, and it is hard to read. Pages overlap, and there is no way of uncovering the hidden bits.

More importantly, perhaps, the auto-renewable trial subscription is close to impossible to cancel. Could be called deceptive marketing tactics, or worse.
