5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent dehumidifier, 13 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the second dehumidifier I have ever bought, and I have been using it for some months. It is superior in every way to my previous one. It is:
Quiet – not noiseless but quiet enough to leave on in a neighbouring room overnight and not be disturbed
Effective –†it works very well indeed, keeping the house less moist but also drying a rack of washing in good time
Efficient –†the stats on its energy usage have been borne out in my experience
Yes, it is more expensive than some but worth it I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does job well, 17 Jan. 2015

Very good. I've had one installed in my bathroom for a year and it's great if you want to pop the towel rail on for a couple of hours (eg first thing in the morning before work). Thought I'd be bothered by the LEDs but actually quite useful to be able to see if on.

Rediscovered this album recently. It's not quite a John Wesley Harding but it's still genius.

An engaging read. It really is as it says a short story so don't expect more. Although a sequel or other stories in the same vein would be appreciated by this reader!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating reflective residence, 30 Jun. 2014
The House of Twenty Thousand Books is an engrossing history on many levels. On the one, it touchingly evokes the magic of a child drinking in warm, intellectual debate and the wisdom offered as a grandparent's greatest gift. Equally, it marvels at some of great treasures revealed: how could an apparently ordinary north London semi have become the repository for both a Bomberg Bible and Marx's membership card of the First International! On another, as a peek into the history of man shaped by the pivotal events and ideas of the 20th Century, and an exploration of those ideas' fault lines. The big questions raised are all too relevant to the 21st Century though: how do we make sense of the world, what gives life meaning? Religion? Marxism and social change? Family and friends? Understanding and knowledge?

This book eloquently poses these questions while exploring a house packed not just with books but with very different world views. Many may find debate with the author's observations along the way, in need of further argument to and fro. Something I get the feeling the central characters in this House of Books would have approved of greatly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly delicious, 21 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought these as a healthier snack, and expected them to taste like it! But they were delicious. I've bought them on and off line, and always found them good. I wonder if the best before dates are sometimes a little optimistic though, as a tub left in a cupboard for months (but still technically in date) was a bit chewy.
