5.0 out of 5 stars 75% through and still going strong, 20 Dec. 2010
This review is from: Just Cause 2 (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
A fantastic game chock-a-block with action from start to finish. The missions are hilarious with every single cliche in the book coming out for Uncle Sam and blowing up America's enemies left, right and centre. Despite the hilariously pariodied storyline, the action is intense and despite the sameyness of the destruction, huge explosions and looting of bases, towns and villages never seems to get old. The story is nothing to write home about, but the action in this game is second to none. Given the ridiculous price on Amazon, I would buy, buy, buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb game...a moronically low price!, 20 Dec. 2010
This is a fantastic game and a huge step forward on the first Assassin's Creed (which I played through to the end and thoroughly enjoyed). 14th Century Italy has been lovingly modelled and filled with adventure from start to finish. The plot is again confusing, but I am very much into the wonderful conspiracy that is unfolding in front of me.

Can't wait for Brotherhood. Well worth a look for the PC, DRM or no. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars An experience, 23 Mar. 2010
I have just finished Machinerium. What a fantastic experience.

First off, the packaging. The edition I got comes with a printed walkthrough book, a music CD, concept art and the game. I cannot fault this.

The game itself was captivating from puzzle one. Utterly charming and beautiful the characters convey so much emotion and the music is really well done. A glance at the IGN review for this game suggests that the game is far too difficult. I play all games on normal difficulty and have no problem accepting that I am no super brain when it comes to puzzles, but the puzzles in this game were totally logical and while often challenging, nothing that a logical mind will baulk at! I needed the hint book for one puzzle (the bird!), but aside from that everything else was a pleasurable (and often humour filled) journey.

I cannot recommend this game enough. I applaud the guys who put it together and await their next work of art with anticipation! The only small criticism I have is that the game was short (perhaps because I was so captivated time went by so quickly!). This problem is massively mitigated by the price, the quality and the lasting feeling of accomplishment and happiness which comes from finishing the game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 28 Sept. 2007

What an amazing film, beautiful, touching and an excellent story with fabulous characters. Disheartened by some reactions. If you want torture porn, go and watch Saw or Hostel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Genre Change...Whoops, 24 May 2007
This review is from: Ma Fleur (Audio CD)
Ma Fleu is probably a good album...for people that like this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, music in the vein of Radiohead and Coldplay just doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong, I like slow jazz and a good deal of melancholy...but in the right place (Bohren Und Der Club of Gore etc). But contrived lyrics, Irish jig style violin a la Damien Rice and annoying piano solos make this a disappointing piece of work.

'Everyday' and 'Motion' were masterpieces of jazz, records I loved from listen one. I am on listen five of Ma Fleu, and with each listen, I dislike it more and more. It sounds like Cinematic Orchestra want to move into the mainstream, rather than do what they do best: solid and innovative jazz.

As one reviewer put it "but he does the style so well why change". I would say "they do" instead of "he does".

5.0 out of 5 stars King Lear in Feudal Japan. Inspiring., 2 April 2007
This review is from: Ran [DVD] (DVD)
One of Kurosawa's best films. Absolutely brilliant, it left me visibly moved. If you do not know the plot to King Lear, I suggest you don't read up on it before you watch Ran, that way the plot will surprise you and have more of an emotional impact. If you do know the plot, the film is very much based on this except set in Feudal Japan with three lords instead of three ladies!

While watching this film, I could see where Shogun Total War got its inspiration. An epic in all senses. I particuarly enjoyed Mieko Harada's performance as Lady Kaede.
