4.0 out of 5 stars The good, the not so good, and the fiddly, 14 Oct. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I'm coming late to review this item and every other reviewer has pretty much vacuumed up all the points I was going to make and emptied them out here. So, if this review seems a little familiar to you, my apologies. but great minds etc.

What is really really good about it: it's very powerful and it has a long cord, so long I could use it on my garden shed without needing an extension cable.

What's fine about it: the power switch by your foot; the energy rating,

What's not so good: the chance of tripping over the cable if you're not careful, the various additions are on my kitchen window sill because there's nowhere on the machine for them; there's a good chance the top of the vacuum chamber will get blocked which necessitates the top being removed so you can put your finger in to cleat it out, and slightly moist particles will stick to the top of the cylinder; plus putting on the cylinder lid takes a bit getting used to. Also the manual, if you're an idiot like me, takes careful reading before attempting to put it together, something I found very fiddly in parts.

So: when it's good, it's very very good; when it's not so good it's, eh, fiddly. That said, I quite like it -3.85 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you think you might need this then you are almost certainly correct., 9 Oct. 2015
I really like this neat little gadget. It comes flat and is is easily blown up. It's also very light (pun unintended). I left it on a windowsill in the sun and it charged up reasonably quickly. It doesn't give the greatest light imaginable but it is more than adequate in a small space like a tent or if you're reading (a book) under the bedclothes. I'm sure there are many more reasons for using it. It sits on a flat surface and also hangs up easily. It takes up very little room when not in use as all you need to do is to deflate it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, with quibbles., 5 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The music is worth 5 stars and the sound is fine to my ears but there are a few other things you ought to know about before you buy.

The music on the first two discs come in at 140 minutes. The music on the third is around 30 minutes with the other 40 being a pile of short interviews. The music tracks themselves could have benefited from some judicious editing of the time between the songs. The parts when Bruce is talking is fine, that's part of the live performance, but there's is too much of audience which could have been trimmed. It's also a shame that there was no attempt made to edit out annoying stuff like audience whistling during quiet sections of the songs. On the other hand, if you're the type of listener who just likes to close their eyes and image they're there then forget everything I've just written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful and easy to use gadget., 30 Sept. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Can't really fault this at all.

Let's start with packaging which is just right. It's easy to open without the use of scissors or risking damage to your hands which is definite plus. The instructions are clear, albeit the print is small, and there is quite a lot of them, but I do recommend reading them all.

Once you've established the ins and outs of using it, the actual using is simplicity itself. Press a button, check the screen is working, stick it under your tongue for 20 seconds, check the reading. Incidentally, if the reading isn't the 'normal' 37.5, don't panic. If you've read the instructions properly, you'll know that what is normal varies throughout the day and from person to person. So don't wait until you're feeling ill to use. Practise until you're familiar with it.

Hallmark Christmas Charity Multipack Cards 'Festive Fun!' - Pack of 10
Hallmark Christmas Charity Multipack Cards 'Festive Fun!' - Pack of 10

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent quality charity Xmas cards., 29 Sept. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
What it says really: a pack of Christmas cards, one design only, proceeds going to Barnardos and breast cancer charities. I did notice on the back it mentions that the money will be paid by March 2015, so I assume these must be leftovers (and lots of them) from last year unless, and rather unlikely, a typo hence the four rather than five stars..

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, medium price, liked by most cats, 18 Sept. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My cats tend to get Felix pouches to eat more than any other simply because observation tells me that they prefer it. They will eat other stuff as well, but I find it's usually cheaper than the only serious competitor Whiskas, which they also like. To be fair, I've fostered a few cats which do prefer Whiskas, but Felix always goes down well with all my 7 permanent residents (I'm cat rescuer in case you were wondering).

You can't really go wrong with this stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely grateful to have this, 18 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Initial impressions. It arrived a few hours ago and it's great. 4 discs, 31 tracks, running time 280mins, DVD box size, 24 page booklet.
The first thing I did, which I always do when I get a new CD, is copy it to Itunes. Then played the Itunes copy. Coming from my small pc speakers the sound was okay. I started fiddling with a setting I wasn't familiar with and suddenly found the sounds coming from the Bose Internet Radio, plonked on the floor next to me, which (and please don't hate me for this) I was lucky enough to get for free to review. Anyway, the sound was fantastic with an amazingly clear bass and a revelation after the pc's speakers. It was almost like hearing the Dead for the first time. If you haven't got one of these machines and listen to the radio a lot, treat yourself. And play Itunes through it.

The booklet contains informative mini-essays of around 200 or so words on each of the 31 tracks and really enhance the enjoyment. At this point the sharp-eyed among you might have noticed that's one more track than there should be. That's because the first track is a form of prologue. It's 'Caution (Do Not Stop On The Tracks)' and is a studio recording done when the band stopped being The Warlocks but before they adopted TGD. It's more than just a curio but in it you can hear hints of the tropes which made The Dead what they were to become which you hear on the rest of this box set.

As for the music itself, I've just finished playing the first CD which is wonderful (an early concise 10 minute version of Dark Star for example) and I don't expect the rest to be anything less. It's more, however, than a greatest hits set, though there are many of their best-known songs on it but there are also lots of lesser known or rarely played stuff such as the final track, Dylan's Visions Of Johanna.

Even if you just mildly like The Grateful Dead, this is well worth getting. If you're a fan then why are you wasting time reading this when you could be ordering it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice., 9 Sept. 2015
This is very much a first impressions review for an item I received free for review and those first impressions are very impressed. This is one of the nicest items I've received for review.

First off, the manual is nice and clear. Something like that can't be underestimated when it comes to getting to grips with a new piece of kit.

Plug it in and you can play it immediately, though it takes about a day to charge it up before you can use on the internal battery.

It's more than just a DVD player, though I should stress it won't play Blu-Rays. It also plays CDs and variety of other formats, and will will play games -it comes with a games CD, though not being a gamer of any description I'll leave it up to you to judge the quality. Sound and vision of DVDs and CDs is nice and clear.

You can operate directly it from the panel which is clearly laid out or by the remote which is also nice and clear. The games controller you'll have to figure out for yourself. And buy your own headphones which don't come supplied.

It's nice and lightweight which makes it ideal for holidays. Or if, like me, you don't have a TV in your bedroom, ideal for watching/listening to/playing games (ahem) in bed.

While not an expert on portable DVD players (or travelling with children which is where I would imagine it will come in very handy) , I would have to say that this versatile little thing does the job very nicely indeed. If I have one tiny quibble it's that it, being plastic, could easily be damaged if not taken good care of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book of film reviews ever, 3 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Spinegrinder (Paperback)
Essential for people who like cult, weird, wonderful and not so wonderful movies, plus a number of mainstream Hollywood flics. It consists of nearly 8,000 concise and opinionated (the best kind of) reviews. It's particularly good on Japanese movies (no surprise as the author lives in Japan with his extremely understanding Japanese wife) and Asian movies in general. Fans of the DVD Delirium series (of which I'm one) will love this book.

It's also ideal to take to/keep in the toilet as it's perfect for just dipping into for as long as you feel like it, though it may keep you seated in that inner sanctum for longer than you intended.

To be honest, none of my seven cats have, as far as I'm aware, unhealthy joints. I can say that they all love this as a treat.
