1.0 out of 5 stars Simply doesn't work. :-(, 24 Jan. 2016
Although it's very neatly boxed up, it simply didn't work on first use. I've tried charging 6 different items with 6 different leads, but there's no power on any of them. There's no instructions included in the box, I've only discovered from other reviewers that the Betron logo is supposed to illuminate, but mine can't even do that. Although beautifully packaged, this does just look like another cheap Chinese knock-off, and it wouldn't surprise me from reading the other reviews of people's chargers overheating that the CE marking is completely bogus. I'm applying for a full refund, I'm not taking the risk of having a replacement.

4.0 out of 5 stars A jazz album, but not THE jazz album, 11 Aug. 2004
This review is from: The Jazz Album 2003 (Audio CD)
This is a great CD to buy if you've heard a few pieces of jazz, but don't know what they're called or who they're buy, because chances are they'll turn up on this CD. As an introduction to jazz music you can't go wrong, and it'll give you a taste for the different styles and sub-genres within jazz.
But on the flip-side, jazz covers a large spectrum of music, so while there will be plenty of music you'll like in this 2 CD set, there will more than likely be quite a few songs you don't like, I found I only liked about 50% of what was on the CDs.
If you want all the familiar classics in one place, then these CDs will be the answer.

Spanish Phrase Book (AA Essential Phrase Book)
Spanish Phrase Book (AA Essential Phrase Book)
by Nigel Parton
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A great supplement for learning Spanish, 14 Dec. 2002
I've never understood the purpose of using a phrasebook to learn phrases like "can you tell me how to get to the bank on foot?", becuase you are not going to understand the answer. If you're going on holiday on Spain in two weeks time, you won't get a great deal out of the book.
However, phrasebooks are great as supplementary reading if you are making a serious study of the language. It is packed full of phrases to cover every eventuality. You can use it as a vocabulary builder (there is a comprehensive word list at the back of the book), or to learn local idioms and more colloquial expressions.
The language used in the book is also very contemporary, as is all of the technical information contained within. Buy this book, read it, and impress you'll get to the top of your Spanish class

Diccionario Esencial De La Lengua Espanola
Diccionario Esencial De La Lengua Espanola
by Lectorum Publications
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars It really is essential, 7 Dec. 2002
A requirement for any student of a foreign language is to have a bi-lingual dictionary. Also essential, I feel, after studying the language for about a year or so, is to have a mono-lingual dictionary. For the Spanish language this one is excellent.
It is not too burdensome for the student, and the definitions are precise & lucid enough. You'll soon realise that you can find the meanings for words without having to use a bi-lingual dictionary, improving both your vocabulary and Spanish skills at the same time. The more you immerse yourself in purely Spanish literature, the quicker you will find your progress.
The dictionary also contains verb tables and provide a comprehensive list of all those troublesome irregular verbs.
What a great book it is!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing I'm afraid, 7 Dec. 2002
This review is from: Zoo Tycoon (PC) (Video Game)
Having come straight off the back of games like Roller Coaster Tycoon, I was expecting a very enjoyable, fun, and engaging game. It was fun for a little while, but it was simply just not engaging enough. The animals are so fickle to please that you just end up not wanting to please them in the end.
The game is educational. You must get their habitats exactly right for them to breed in your zoo. But education needs to be fun, which this isn't. Sometimes simulation games try to be a little too real, and lose all of their playability. This is one of them. The visitors that come to your zoo all look very bored, and I'm afraid I ended up very bored as well.
The game might keep you amused for a month or so, but there is little to keep you entertained. As the game progresses you do get to use more and more different species of animal, but at the end of the day, so what. You end up with so many subtle variations on essentially the same animal you lose interest.
I was more than a little disappointed by this game. If you are new to simulation games you might enjoy it, but if you have played others, you'll be frustrated.

Mastering Spanish Vocabulary (Mastering Vocabulary)

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just vocab, 29 Nov. 2002
The book contains vocabulary divided into 41 different sectons such as food, finance, health, art etc. If you look up one word you'll be able to see all other related words, plus examples of how to use them correctly. Because of this, the book actually performs quite well as a phrasebook.
And it is not just nouns that it teaches but related verbs and there is a whole chapter on what the book calls structural words, ie preposistions, pronouns and conjunctions, quite useful if you're still having trouble trying to distinguish between por and para.
If you work through the book methodically it is invaluable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, 17 Feb. 2002
This review is from: Wicked Game (Audio CD)
I was introduced to this album by the title track, Wicked Game, via it's playing on the current Mercedes tv advert. I believe it is the best song on the album, but that is not to disrespect any of the other songs in any way. If you like the Eagles, you might like this too, there's just a hint of country in there, and a bit of slide guitar. Very pleasant to listen to in the car or on a Sunday evening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forze Forcione, 19 July 2001
This review is from: Ghetto Paradise (Audio CD)
I don't know much about jazz, but I certianly know that this is worth paying money for! The two best pieces are Alhambra with its latin basis, and Indian Cafe, which really does sound Indian, without insulting the sensitivities of the western ear. I'm off to buy Acoustic Revenge now!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good Book, 11 May 2000
Despite Muncaster's main A-level textbook being so dreadful, this book is superb. It is clear, easy to understand and full of pictures that make the subject incredibly interesting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Makes Physics hard work, 11 May 2000
This review is from: A Level Physics (Paperback)
I found this book a very hard read, and it wasn't much better to revise from. The text is very theoretical in nature, and doesn't provoke any enthusiasm into the subject with casestudies, practical uses of what you are learning etc etc
