1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money - use a rope and proper hammock knot, 19 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Do not buy - it's rubbish. There's no way to adjust the length so the hammock sags or is too tight. The material is slippy so it slides down tree trunk and it creaks. A piece of rope using a proper hammock knot is way cheaper and better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not genuine, 22 Mar. 2015

Lasted about 3 months. Obviously not genuine as per usual. Amazon seems happy to let this sharp practice run and run, just as long as they make money.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good but with 1 major irritation, 19 Jan. 2015
Although it measures temperature to 0.5 degrees it only switches off or on the heating in 1 degree steps. You can end up with long cycle times. In other rooms in the house away from the room the thermostat is in it can result in uncomfortable drops in temperature.

Most thermostats allow the user to select the step size.

Salus don't seem to be interested in fixing this (with a trivial software update)

1.0 out of 5 stars Ripped in a few days - not fit for purpose do not buy, 31 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Many reviews reporting poor quality. I can confirm that the material is not strong enough to cope with normal use and tore along the top edge within a few days.

1.0 out of 5 stars I cannot install drivers on windows 7 after several hours of trying, 18 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I tried on two separate Win 7 machines and I cannot install the drivers properly.

On one it shows the status of the printer but refuses to print despite hours of fiddling and running fixes etc.

On the other the installation CD simply did nothing. Finally windows 7 installed a generic USB driver which printed only on one account. The others wouldn't work and gave error messages never seen before.

I am very knowledgeable about computers but solving this is a ridiculous waste of time when all I want to do is plug in the printer and print - it should take 10 minutes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unpredictable results - would return if I hadn't thrown the box away, 29 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My last few cameras have been compact Canons, and I thought I'd try this as there were lots of positive reviews.

Overall this camera seems to be able to take some excellent pictures, but it's also quite hit and miss; the most obvious fault is the poor focussing. Initially the photo looks okay, but when viewed on a larger screen, you can see something is not right. Is this a focus issue or noise reduction processing I don't know. This problem is much worse when using the optical zoom. I found myself already taking several pictures together and hoping that one is actually focused on the subject.

There is no macro mode as such, you just point the camera at something close-up and it does it all, but again when the picture is in focus, wow, stunning detail. But time and time again it simply will not focus on the subject..Place your subject in the green box, it indicates correct focus but no, yet again it's focussed on the background or nothing. So basically with a largish macro subject it works fine, but try to get say a picture of a insect on a branch - you just can't unless you're lucky.

The menu system seems overly simple, with a lack of subtle adjustments and video in .MOV format only, which eats storage space and has a 10.5 minute clip limit. If you want to say change from single shot to multishot, you have to click through the menu. Surely a couple of programmable buttons or menus, would allow one or two press selection.

Honestly I can't recommend this camera - the Leica lens does not make up for its plastic feel, soft focus pictures and lack of proper menus.

Will probably end up buying a another canon.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT XL - very small hence the "cheap" price., 27 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I suppose there's no standard which defines what an XL beanbag bag is. But this beanbag is just about big enough for a large child.

As an adult it's a joke - I imagined slumping comfortably into a big enveloping bag, but it's not to be - if that's what you're looking for I suggest you look elsewhere.

Seriously disappointing and misleading.

How Doctors Think
How Doctors Think
by Jerome E Groopman
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Mainly a collection of old medical anecdotes - lacks evidence, 7 Aug. 2012
This review is from: How Doctors Think (Hardcover)
A doctor of Dr Groopman's age, likely considers that the word of a senior clinician is all that matters, and thus pontificates in that haphazard oratory style as if he's lecturing wide-eyed medical students.

These days ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE is considered almost valueless, and unfortunately the thesis of book is based almost exclusively on his stories - where are the links to the research?

In the introduction he states that 15% of all diagnoses are wrong and then goes on to say that he can recall every single misdiagnosis he ever made during his 30 year career. Considering he may have treated more than 20,000 patients in that time he must have an amazing memory to remember the approximately 3000 errors he made. In fact what he means is that he simply isn't aware of nearly all of them, and remembers a few juicy stories. And this lack of insight is concerning when it is the topic on which the book focuses.

The snap clinical decisions he lauds, made by doctors, can be be wrong, and lead to either acute disasters or long-term denial of appropriate treatment.

Medical school training has moved a long way from the type of training that the author had. Hopefully it has made some difference. Unfortunately, being an aloof doctor or a warm caring one, is probably more to do with inbuilt personality than training.
