5.0 out of 5 stars Rivets go in with little effort and the whole thing feels really well made - recommended. Certainly much better than an only-sli, 7 Nov. 2016

Big, heavy and very solid. Rivets go in with little effort and the whole thing feels really well made - recommended. Certainly much better than an only-slightly-cheaper but apparently similar tool from a different manufacturer I previously had.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good bits and bad bits. Overall, it went back., 7 Nov. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Hmm.

Good bits:

Tripod: The legs and their quick release catches are good and solid, the whole thing's pretty stable as a tripod, even when extended to its full (enormous!) height. And, obviously, the max height is really impressive.

Monopod: Really clever idea, and a simple twist action locks / unlocks the telescopic action at any height.

Head: The plate you screw onto your camera or lens is a symmetric, square, unit, so you can (unlike with many tripods) put it onto the tripod head in any of four orientations. That's clever, and much less hassle than some designs which can only be clipped in in one orientation.

Unfortunately, there's a couple of bad bits that really let this product down:

Monopod: You twist the foot to "lock" the monopod, then put your (not very heavy) camera onto the top and find that the "lock" is not quite as locked as you first imagined. If you're not quick to realise the thing it collapsing, this could become a very expensive mishap. So, you take the camera off again and twist some more tension onto the locking mechanism and repeat. Turns out you need really quite a lot of tension in order for the monopod to support any reasonable camera weight (plus whatever load you put on by inadvertently also leaning on it). At that point, when you've finished, it's quite difficult to unlock it again, especially if the monopod was fully extended and/or your grip isn't the strongest. Additionally, it makes enough noise that you imagine you could break something whilst attempting to wind enough tension on to it.

Head: The head as a whole just feels a bit lightweight and plasticky, mostly because it is. The knob to adjust the tilt friction (after you've unlocked the tilt by twisting the handle) isn't the easiest to grip, then when you do it goes from "fully tight" to "nothing" (and later, "falling off") in a really short range, so it's not wonderfully adjustable. Worse, it appears that panning, if the central post isn't fully down (and therefore can't be left floating freely) doesn't so rotate anything but just starts unscrewing the head off the central post. It's not hard to imagine that if you weren't careful, over time you could just unscrew the head off the tripod during use, which might again get really quite expensive.

Overall, the monopod should be considered as an amusing little trick, rather than a decent monopod; unfortunately the cost that went into developing and producing that part would have been *much* better spent in making the head just a little bit better in a couple of ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive results, but some small details could be improved, 19 Aug. 2016

This review is from: ProQ Frontier Elite BBQ Smoker
Good bits:

It's brilliant to cook with! Easy to use, easy to control the temperature (by adjusting the vents and doors), feels pretty solid, loads of cooking space inside, great results.

The use of the vents to control the temperature takes a bit of practice, but they're really responsive - just a small adjustment to a vent can let you see a near-instant change in the temperature recorded by the top probe.

So far we've done a whole smoked chicken, smoked duck, hot smoked salmon and even made some fantastic bread in it.

Less good bits:

I'm being picky here...

1. The legs bolt on, with only a tiny diagram to show the arrangement of washers. When you tighten the bolts up to what you think is about right, the enamel coating around the bolt holes splinters off... Then, when you use it, the heat cycle means the bolts work loose, so you need to retighten them every time you empty the ash out.

2. There is no waterproof cover included (there is a cover, I understand, "coming soon", but as yet not in stock) and there is no drain hole in the base. It's not waterproof itself, obviously, due to being made of various sections and having doors, temperature probe holes, vents, etc. Therefore, when it's been raining, the base part becomes a hidden pond that you'll only find the next time you come to use it. Really, this smoker should have a cover included - yes it'll push the price up a bit, but it's something you're almost certainly going to buy anyway, at greater total expense and hassle than if it was included. Also a small drain hole in the base would be a plus... I'd drill one myself, but, see comment about the enamel splintering off when tightening the legs up. I don't want to cause more damage!

3. The fire basket is not rustproof. There must be a reason the basket isn't stainless, when the grilling racks are - cost, I imagine - and to "prevent" rust it's painted or coated in something. Unfortunately that something is something that completely falls off the first time you use it, meaning the fire basket then goes rusty before the second time you use it, because, see above about not being waterproof or supplied with a cover. This seems a false economy as it gives a poor impression of attention to detail, in what is generally a really nice product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bargain sunglasses, 19 Aug. 2016

Bargain!

They may be sold as safety glasses - and they're very good at that - but they make for excellent general sun glasses too. Ideal for cycling, driving open cars, assorted other outdoor sports, and even DIY in the sun. All without the 10-fold price hike that certain designer "sports glasses" somehow persuade punters to fall for.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's as good as your external power supply, 19 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's *nearly* perfect.

Good points:

You can now retain full waterproof status whilst having "unlimited" recording time (given that a 64GB card is good for 9+ hours of HD recording and a power bank that can run a GoPro for longer than that can be had for a few quid). Yes, OK, it's limited by card size, but you can always swap cards, right?

Also, because this replaces the battery, the battery and charging circuits aren't continuously active, which is more efficient and means your GoPro doesn't get increasingly warm, which does happen if you use external power via the USB power input socket on the camera.

Snag:

Occasionally, I have had recording just stop for no obvious reason. My suspicion is that with vibration whilst driving, possibly the USB plug momentarily loses contact in the socket of my power bank. As there is now no battery in the camera, any external power loss for any reason, even very briefly, causes the camera to shut down. Chances are, you won't notice this until you next do something with the camera, such as going to turn it off on arrival at your destination or the end of your activity. Sometimes also this corrupts the file being written at the time, so you can lose up to 2GB of the most recently recorded footage.

This isn't a fault of this product, really, but something to be aware of with whatever it's plugged in to - if your power connection isn't 100% solid and reliable, there is this risk of lost footage. This has happened to me a couple of times in the month or so since I bought this; whilst in the three years previously (when I fed power into the USB port, through a hole in the GoPro casing) I had never suffered any similar issues as, presumably, the onboard battery was masking any dropouts in the external power.

Overall:

A well-made and useful piece of kit.

The only improvement I could suggest would be for the adaptor block to contain some capacitance. Even a tiny amount would be good, just to sustain the camera if the external supply was interrupted for a few seconds. If it were enough to run the camera for maybe a minute, that would be brilliant as it would permit you to replug the camera between power supplies without powering down.

Diamante Luxury Venetian Style Metal Filigree Masquerade Mask

2.0 out of 5 stars Well it looks nice. Unfortunately, 3 Nov. 2015

Well it looks nice. Unfortunately, not so much packaged by amazon as chucked in a box with other items. Being metal filigree it had therefore been bent some in transit.

On the plus side, that flexibility should mean you can make it fit any face shape. In reality, that doesn't happen. I couldn't make it fit properly, at all. The straps mount too high up at the back, so the mask is pulled to the wrong place and slips down so the eye holes would only have been useful if I could see out of my cheekbones; also it was always squashing my eyebrows / upper eyelids. Not at all comfortable, and that was just standing still. I fear that had I got as far as a party and started talking and dancing, it probably would have slipped further and become more Hannibal Lecter than elegant Venetian.

Nice and bright, decent suspension hook, nice long cable and a decent inline switch. Ideal for camping or emergency lighting.

They really do appear to be the equivalent of a 40-50W incandescent light, in that you can't really look directly at it at close range.

CARCHET® Dual Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Splitter 12V Charger USB Power Adapter

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product, 3 Nov. 2015

No complaints at all. CE marked, feels solid enough, easy to fit (even includes some 6.3mm spade connectors) and configurable so the sockets can be rotated to suit your needs, or interchanged later if you felt the need and got different inserts (like, another 12V socket, or another USB socket pair, or the digital voltmeter that's available).
