Gosling's Black Seal Rum, 70 cl
Gosling's Black Seal Rum, 70 cl
Price: £21.00

5.0 out of 5 stars The daddy of dark rums..., 8 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ignore the great marketing of Kraken and embrace the real deal. A seal may not be as cool as a sea monster but this is a proper dark rum -
rather than a rum liqueur which is what you're getting with Kraken - and Goslings tastes SO much better! They have the Dark 'n' Stormy TM for good reason.

Sauza Silver Tequila, 70 cl
Sauza Silver Tequila, 70 cl
Price: £17.96

1.0 out of 5 stars Shame on Sauza!, 7 Sept. 2017
This review is from: Sauza Silver Tequila, 70 cl (Wine)
For this same price you can get decent 100% agave Tequila which is far more enjoyable to drink. This is Sauza's awful dirty cheap version of their fabulous 'Hornitos' 100% agave tequilas. They should take this off the market. It soils their brand and is exactly the kind of stuff that gives tequila a bad name!

El Jimador Reposado Tequila, 70 cl
El Jimador Reposado Tequila, 70 cl
Price: £20.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for sipping, shots or cocktails., 7 Sept. 2017
The cheapest 100% agave Tequila you can buy. Everything else at this price is a 'mixto' (minimum 51% agave which will taste oily and dirty - the kind of stuff that gives tequila a bad-name.) El Jimador is cheap but decent 'proper' tequila. Basic level and quality enough for sipping, shots or cocktails.

Monte Alban Mezcal, 70 cl
Monte Alban Mezcal, 70 cl
Price: £29.00

1.0 out of 5 stars No, don't do it..., 7 Sept. 2017
This review is from: Monte Alban Mezcal, 70 cl (Wine)
Seriously. It's a myth!! As if Amazon (or any one!) would sell you a bottle of hallucinogenic trips for twenty quid!? Don't waste your money! If you want worms or maggots in your booze dig some up for free and then, if you really want to, drop them in a bottle of decent 100% agave tequila or Mezcal like El Jimador, Olmeca Altos, Quiquiriqui or Del Miguel which taste nice and are actually drinkable! Or learn the expensive and disappointing way, the choice is yours...

Randall
Randall
by Jonathan Gibbs
Edition: Paperback
Price: £11.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much more imaginative, interesting and fun...., 6 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Randall (Paperback)
I so wanted to like this but only found the descriptions of Randall's art itself were of interest and by far the infrequent best parts of the novel, the narrative itself didn't hold me at all and the narrator was very unconvincing - overall a dull satire punctuated by infrequent pages of creative invention.

Del Maguey Vida De San Luis Del Rio Mezcal, 70 cl
Del Maguey Vida De San Luis Del Rio Mezcal, 70 cl
Price: £44.39

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid Mezcal but there's cheaper and smokier out there, 6 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not my favorite Mezcal but a solid fruity second. Personally I prefer Quiquiriqui which is smokier, smoother, less fruity and cheaper but it's down to personal taste in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Bitters, 25 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A brilliantly affordable way to try some unusual flavour bitters. I already had 15 different bitters in my bar (just counted) but none of the flavours here apart from a different brand of chocolate. All 5 in this pack are really good and versatile, tasting exactly of what they are meant to with perfectly complimenting background aromatics and a seriously deep bitter depth. I have to admit the chocolate is better than the Fee Brothers bottle I already owned. The peach bitters are really knockout too. I love these little miniature 5-for-the-price-of-one packs. It was the BT 'travellers' pack that got me into bitters in the first place.

Chartreuse Green Liqueur, 70 cl
Chartreuse Green Liqueur, 70 cl
Price: £37.79

4.0 out of 5 stars An essential, though rarely used, classic cocktail ingredient, 18 Aug. 2017
It's really hard to review something that has no equivalent. Chartreuse is a completely unique liqueur - it's the only colour that is named after a drink after all. It's not something that I or anyone I know would ever drink neat but it is a classic cocktail component that cannot be substituted for. Your investment in a bottle should last a long time unless you're addicted to Last Words! My last bottle has lasted a year and over a 1000 cocktails made - though proportionally Chartreuse has featured in relatively few. It's one of those liqueurs that I keep in stock but am thankful, due to price, that I don't have to repurchase too often!

Pussers Gunpowder Proof Rum, 70 cl

5.0 out of 5 stars Three big guns..., 3 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The three big guns of overproof dark rums are Pussers, Goslings and Woods. There's not much between them price or taste-wise but they each have their own individual subtleties. All are pretty intense hairs-on-your-chest neat sippers. Mixing-wise things mellow a lot. Goslings is synonymous with Dark and Stormys, Pussers with Painkillers, but they're all great.

Woods Old Navy Rum, 70 cl
Woods Old Navy Rum, 70 cl
Offered by TheDrinkShop
Price: £28.08

5.0 out of 5 stars Old dog, new tricks..., 3 Aug. 2017
This review is from: Woods Old Navy Rum, 70 cl (Wine)
A really good overproof dark rum that's cheaper than Goslings or Pussers but just as solid. Apparently (reading reviews on other sites) one of the few rums that still compares to the old navy tot. The high proof makes it a bit harsh as an undiluted sipper but with a bit of ice or as a mixer it's not going to get lost in the mix. Makes a killer Dark and Stormy. I think it was a good move losing the old fashioned branding, it's a competitive market and this rum deserves more fans.
