5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, 16 Dec. 2003
Shunji Iwai's visually sumptuous and achingly beautiful cinematic style is employed to stunning effect, in what can perhaps be described as the definitive 'coming-of-age' drama to appear in Japan. The genuinly moving story is played out to a backdrop of vibrant colour depicting both the dark and light of rural Japanese culture. The use of Debussy's romantic piano pieces to highlight the shockingly brutal reality of the film is quite masterful, as is the skillful touch of blending this with the etheral tones of the fictional Diva Lily Chou-Chou. The film handles strong issues seen through the eyes of Yuichi, the introvert central character, with flair and compassion, allowing both the actions and consequences to be seen in full. As a piece of cinema it is mezmerizing, yet as a social comment it is inspired. All About Lily Chou-Chou is truly a masterpiece of modern film making, it's hauntingly powerful images long remaining in memory, a testament to the films brilliance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The saga continues..., 25 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Resident Evil 2 - Box (Video Game)
Resident evil began the saga. Resident evil two continues it in style. The game plays very differently to the original yet it adopts the same premise. The main difference is that the two characters have different paths through the game and very different storylines. This technique builds on Resident evil 1 but adds more to each so as to preserve the feeling of two very different takes on a common problem. The voice acting is better, however the plot is less believeable. There are more guns, bigger enemies and more set pieces making this the Aliens of the saga,More action than puzzles. It is a refreshing change and well worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars You were almost a Jill sandwich!, 25 Aug. 2002
This review is from: Resident Evil (Video Game)
This is one of the greatest games of all time. It began the survival horror genre and forged the way for others such as dino crisis and parasite eve. However for the true experience you have to return to the roots. Resident evil is a masterpiece of gaming. It has the shocks and fear (as well as camera angles) of a classy horror movie and a great plot to boot. The voice acting is a little under par to say the least, however this just adds to the fun. Buy this game and you wont regret it. It will keep you up at night and suck you in to the horror. So turn off the lights, get a mate round for protection and crank up the volume because the mansion is waiting for you, don't dissapoint! - I hope this isn't Chris's blood!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't open that door!, 27 July 2002
The game that began it all, Resident evil is back. It may be a remake but it's certainly taught the zombies a few new tricks. New areas, enemies and survial tactics are just some of the new features. The graphics have been ramped up to todays standards and really bring an extra element of fear to the game. However all these seperate parts would not create a good game if the basis wasn't up to scratch. This is not the case here as they have the original and best survival horror to work with. There's enough nostalgia to please old hands, like me, as well as enough polish and new tricks to entice fresh blood to the series. It may be a remake (your thinking: nothing new, done it already), but it is a remake of a fantastic game and that can't be taken away. So turn off the lights, crank up the volume and get an extra pair of trousers ready cause Resi is here! - "I hope this isn't Chris' blood!"

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor contribution, 21 May 2002
After seeing this film I certainly wanted more. It's certainly not a very bad film it's just not a very good one. The premise is awfull and the plot too disjointed to provide any depth. the acting is generally poor and the zombies look pathetic. The only good point on the monster front are the dogs which are spot on yet the CGI licker is shocking. If you want a good zombie film try the night of the living dead trilogy. Stick to the games or the books, for fans of the series, like me, as you will not find anything like what the prestigious name deserved with this tripe!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BUNDLE, 1 Jan. 2002
The matrix was un-doubtedly one of the best films of all time and this collection really enhances it's experience. The interviews and behind the scenes looks are great and it's all packaged in a nice bundle. The only quarrel i have is over the fact that the film is in widescreen and for me (i don't have a widescreen tv) this spoilt the film somewhat. However even if you have the matrix on video or even on dvd this set is worth getting because the variety of extras will keep you watching again and again.
