Truly one of the worst films I've watched

1.0 out of 5 stars It's behind you..., 4 Nov. 2015

I don't watch many horror films and this shocker didn't persuade me to watch any more, especially since other reviewers seem to think it's a classic. Quite good for the first 10 minutes, it soon descends into a daft caper, with every stock horror theatrical thrown in at some point. The best thing about the film is the wardrobe, not the inevitable creepy wardrobe, but the clothes worn by the main actors.

Unreliable - worked okay for a few days, now seems to charge when it wants to not when I need it to.

Very worthwhile hour or so, watching a wonderful group of actors against a bleak Glasgow backdrop. Increasingly moving and strangely optimistic at the end.

A brilliant, poignant and moving film; dialogue, cinematography and sound track all working together to great effect. Wonderful performance from Anna Paquin.

2.0 out of 5 stars Something's not right..., 7 Feb. 2013

Something's not right with this cable. When I use it to plug the Macbook into a digital projector the projected image is dull. Yes I've cranked everything up on the Mac and the projector. Everything works fine using a boring old PC and its tatty black cable.

An important book, out of print, not in the library, so pleased to get a copy quickly and for a fair price

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but doesn't add much, 26 Oct. 2010
This is a nice book - nicely produced certainly. But it doesn't add much to what is already available on the history of the Ordnance Survey. And the folksy descriptive flourishes at the beginning of chapters, and in fact throughout the book - "It was a good day to receive the letter that was awaiting him on the breakfast table" "the sun shone out as brightly as Banks's mood" - detract from the text rather than make it more interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - should be in print!, 4 May 2010
Acute observation and an interesting line in self reflection. Probably vital for anyone wanting to know about the recent history of Spitalfields, with no shortage of evidence that this fellow can write compelling narrative.
