2.0 out of 5 stars mainly because the author makes great use of quotes to fill the page, 1 Nov. 2016

Very hard work, mainly because the author makes great use of quotes to fill the page. No continuity. I found it boring, and lacking in forward movement.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, but, 1 Nov. 2016
More engineer and personality orientated than engineering. Beautifully written, but, I was continually thinking, 'C'mon, man. Get to thinking like an engineer.' Too much time spend in chatting about India, and the Ganga - the river Ganges. Really not an engineering book. Title very misleading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Furious, 27 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Everything you'd expect from a book from a book with the cover as shown. A tight fast-paced tale which is obviously a short (maybe it should be classed as a short story) lead in to the books that follow. The writer certainly knows his trade, and the writing is faultless. If you're into covert government groups of elite fighting men and women, this is for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good enough., 22 July 2015

This review is from: Go Set a Watchman (Hardcover)
I honestly tried to give this book a fair try; twice I put it down, and twice I picked it up again. Then, I got as far as a third of the way through, and finally gave up. In a word, BORING. Nothing happens. The first 100 pages are a meandering through Scout's thoughts and opinions, with the most eventful scene being near-skinny-dipping by Scout and Hank. I can't go into characters and plot, because, after 100 pages I couldn't see a plot developing, and, if you haven't read 'Mocking Bird', the characters will be flat because they do nothing to stamp themselves indelibly on the reader's mind. I'm not going to bother to try and think of something interesting to say about the book, because there was nothing to interest me. It really is terrible.

The End of the World Running Club
The End of the World Running Club

5.0 out of 5 stars Oooo. Too possible not to be unnerved., 19 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Absolutely thoroughly enjoyed it. A good believable story, excellent characters, well paced, not too much of the protagonist's inner thoughts and musings (which I hate in any story). A race from the beginning, but don't read too much into the title about a running club or you'll be mislead. This is drama from page one. Well done, Mr Adrian J. Walker.

Bite: The most gripping thriller you will ever read
Bite: The most gripping thriller you will ever read

2.0 out of 5 stars Tag line is a total lie., 22 Oct. 2014

NOT THE MOST GRIPPING THRILLER! Really disappointed in this book, but, it seems to follow the pattern of a lot of books lately in that it starts of gripping - four pages - then dies a long and lingering death. The dialogue between characters just does not seem natural and the sex scenes are not necessary, and the plot is jumping all over the place, and...
Anyway, gave up less than half-way through. If this is the '... most gripping thriller...' I'd hate to mistakenly buy the worst.

2.0 out of 5 stars I gave up., 9 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I never thought I'd ever write a review like this on a Lee Child/Jack Reacher book. I gave up on it. So disappointed. I was ready to give up at 40% but struggled on to 78% before I finally switched off. The writing is technically perfect, but, the plot is so weak. And, far too much space is given to explaining the why and wherefor of minor items; like what happens when a bullet enters your body. For page after page the story was not moving forward, the dwelling on his partner's packet of pills was so boring. And I hate stories where the protagonists (in this case Reacher and his helper) carries personal baggage.
I'll think long and hard about buying Lee's next Reacher book.

Elephant Moon
Elephant Moon
by John Sweeney
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars unrequited love, a chase, 12 Sept. 2014
This review is from: Elephant Moon (Hardcover)
Well written fiction based on fact. A gripping story, involving murder, deceit, unrequited love, a chase, and animals. If ever a book should be made into a film - this is it. The trek and the chase would make for spectacular visuals. I'll never look at an elephant again without thinking of his book. Absolutely brilliant.

2.0 out of 5 stars They've spoiled a good phone, 1 Sept. 2014

Nothing like the original. Bad sound, rubbish signal, no matter where I am. I've dumped it in the drawer, and gone back to my battered original (which looks well worn, but works excellently. Why do companies insist on trying to improve a brilliant produce when there is nothing wrong with it in the first place. When my old tattered and trusty phone finally gives up, I will not be buying this model again.
