So far I have only dipped into this book, but have been entranced by the poetry chosen and the very relevant commentary, to each poem. I look forward to using the book next year in lent, reading one poem each day. Meanwhile I shall continue to dip into the book from time to time as seems relevant

Honest to Jesus: Jesus for a New Millennium
Honest to Jesus: Jesus for a New Millennium
by Robert Walter Funk
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £22.95

5.0 out of 5 stars Finding the real Jesus, 15 May 2011
One of the problems for followers of Jesus, is to find and appreciste his true teachings, buried in the written word provided by the books of the New Testament section of the Bible. The earliest of the Gospels was written some 40 years after Jesus' death, and later ones upto 60 or more years later. None of the writers had personal knowledge of Jesus. The gospels can not be considered as biographies, but are rather teachings intended for the writer's communities. The writer unravels the writings and helps the reader to select the wordw of Jesus from the rest fo the material. These words of Jesus being the pithy aphorisms and parables. It is clear that Jesus did not see himself as a saviour of the world, but someone encouraging the building of egalitarian communities. This book is highly recommeded for all persons wishing to understand the real Jesus.
