Well written thriller, working a couple of storylines into one main tale that has an unexpectedly satisfying ending. I was afraid that it was going to end with the usual predictable results for the main players, but was pleasantly surprised...Hooray! Minor gripe...the dog changes sex and there are a couple of minor errors which should have been picked up, but these don't detract from a good read.
I would definitely recommend this and intend to read the authour's other works.

2.0 out of 5 stars Choose "The Last Resort" over this nonsense., 4 Mar. 2016

This runs like a non stop recruiting campaign for the American Navy and is just ludicrous! The ability of the Murican crew to take out drug lords and their cohorts, or Gitmo terrorists when there are so few of them is pure nonsense! This wanted to be "The Last Resort", but foundered and sunk.
Strangely, the last episode is by far the best, but I couldn't recommend enduring this drivel to get there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't be tempted just because you got this far!, 4 Mar. 2016

I persevered with the series as I knew this was the last installment, but it was so awful I never finished watching it. The ability of the Mason clan to survive every eventuality unscathed got really dull, really fast - if they had just killed off one of them, it would have been a better scenario, as other people's families were decimated. Pope was a decent character, acting as a foil to Tom's self righteous leadership style, but was ruined by making him some sort of psycho nutter, before seeing the wisdom of Tom's ways (of course). This could have been better....and should have been better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Revival and this for Christmas and would like a refund on all three, 16 Jan. 2015

I bought Joyland, Revival and this for Christmas and would like a refund on all three! Again, the ending lets the whole thing down. In my view, I would have prefered the loony to have been successful, leaving the cop to suffer his failure. It just all plays out too conveniently, like an episode of Scooby Doo, where the pesky kids cobble together some random facts into a bizarre scenario that just so happens to be the answer, thereby saving the day.No! I don't know if Stephen King is contracted to trot out x amount of books, but he surely can't need the cash and from his latest offerings doesn't seem to have the heart for entertaining his readers anymore - just going through the motions. I have read all his previous work and have just re-read The Dark Tower series, enjoying it more the second time around and am sorry to say I won't be reading any new offerings. Joe Hill writes like his dad used to - move over Steve, the student has become the master.

3.0 out of 5 stars I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords!, 16 Jan. 2015

Well, this reads like Stephen King fell asleep after eating a large amount of cheese, while watching The Simpsons episodes "Deep Space Homer" and "Treehouse of Horror 7". Giant insects herding enslaved humans - as Unky Moe would say "Whaaa.........?"
It was all going so well, until it wasn't. The story is very readable up to a point and we all get by now that Mr King has an issue with organised religion, that he feels unable to keep out of his writing...but mahoosive ants in the afterlife....really? This could have been a really good book, instead it's just average, being badly let down by the ludicrous ending. Stephen King is in danger of becoming the literary equivalent of the Rolling Stones - still going on and on when the best is in the past and he should just fade away (geddit!). Stop writing, you're turning into Dean Koontz...and that's not good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average fare for old SK fans - won't win any new ones., 16 Jan. 2015

This really isn't any better than an ok read. The story reads well up to a certain point fairly near the end and is interesting enough to keep the reader wanting to find out what happens, but what really lets it down is the killer's need to confess all to the hero of the piece, thereby sealing his fate. You could argue that the killer has been identified - but flimsily - and nothing that the police would buy as evidence. If he had escaped to carry on, perhaps with newspaper articles of further killings to haunt the surviving characters, it would have been a less lame ending. I know this is fantasy, but a little more of a believable ending would have gone down better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fooled!, 10 April 2013

This series is a very Zone Horror daytime viewing sort of otherworldly sci-fi yarn. I suppose it could be considered good wholesome family viewing in a less scary Dr Who stylee with a strong emphasis on doing the right thing and learning from your mistakes, but it's very predictable for anyone over the age of 10! Reading this makes me feel I have been a bit harsh, so I might give it another go, but I managed the first 3 discs and found it a bit cloying, so we'll see. Kids will probably like the dinosaur element, so perhaps I am the wrong market?

I have been a Jonathan Kellerman fan since the first one I read, way back when and am pleased to say that this is as good as anything he has ever done. The story is well paced and plotted, with interesting if not always sympathetic characters and plenty of twists to keep the reader hooked and guessing. Readers who enjoy Sue Grafton, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais and other writers of crime will really like this and I would definitely recommend it.
