5.0 out of 5 stars VERY UNDERRATED, CLASSIC ALBUM FROM XZIBIT, 16 Sept. 2006
This review is from: 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (Audio CD)
i first got in to xzibit when i bought at the speed of life, and i was really impressed by the honesty, lyricism, and production on it, which made it a classic, and this is right up there with that album, if not better, the beats on this album are brilliant, quite hardcore, certainly not for the commercial rap fan, but they really suit xzibits style, as i said before, xzibit is a really good lyricist, his flow is always on point, and his has a good if not rough voice, his subject matter is versatile too, he raps about politics, repping where he's from, but keeps it gangster at the same time, this album is xzibit without any sugar coating, like xzibit himself said 'what u see is what u get', overall, this is definitely one of the best rap albums ever, i would strongly recommend it to any rap fan, peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BIRTH OF A GENIUS, 4 Sept. 2006
This review is from: The Slim Shady LP (Audio CD)
the slim shady LP, a look in to the dark, twisted world of eminem, this was his debut, he was broke angry, and ready to take on the world, and let me tell you this album is nothing short of brilliant, eminem proves himself as an incredible lyricist, with an amazing delivery great voice, he is brutally honest and raps about a range of subject matters, such as the struggles of being broke, hilarious storytelling songs, killing his girlfriend, vicous battle rap songs, dissing everyone from his mum to vanilla ice, in fact, the majority of the songs on this album are hilarious battle rap songs, which doesnt really matter because eminem comes up with punchlines, jokes, and multis galore, this album is mainly produced by underground producers(apart from 2 songs produced by dr dre), and the beats are amazing, theye are not heavy or commercialized but still easy on the ear, and its obvious the producers took alot of time trying to get the mood of the production to fit the songs this is the second best of eminems 3 amazing albums(encore was garbage) i would highly recommend this, if you want to hear some amazing lyricism, brutal honesty, or amazing battle rap skills, peace

5.0 out of 5 stars LIKE EVERYONE SAYS-NAS'S COMEBACK ALBUM, 27 Aug. 2006
This review is from: Stillmatic (Audio CD)
dont want to sound cliched here, but it is true, this is nas's best after illmatic, first off, the prodution on this album is very good, it is listenable without being too commercial, and matches the mood of the songs and nas's flow, the lyrics and wordplay on this are amazing, with nas showing off his mcing skills to the fullest, nas raps about a wide range of topics on this album, with songs such as one mic, rule, poison, every ghetto, rewind, and of course, that diss track which completely destroyed jay z, ether, this album came at a time when commercial rap was going downhill, and its good it came when it did, overall, this album is a modern classic, although jay z-the blueprint, i think is slightly better, peace

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT NAS ALBUM, 25 July 2006
This review is from: God's Son (Audio CD)
after the amazing stillmatic, nas's second best album, rap fans were waiting to see if nas could follow it up with another great album, and he did, the production on this is really good, not over-commercialized but good to listen to, most of the beats match the mood of the songs, the lyrics on gods son are great too, nas, because his mum had just died before this album was made, is very emotional on this, and he speaks about lots of different things, such as his situation with jay z, how hip hop is being ruined by r and b rappers, political songs, and positive messages to kids, there is a song dedicated to his mother, called dance, which is probaby the best song on the album, other highlights are the cross, made you look, get down, revolutionary warfare, warrior song, book of rhymes, last real n**** alive and thugz mansion and more, there are too many good songs on this album to name, there are really only 2 bad tracks, which are zone out and hey nas, zone out because the beat is not very good, and the fact that the bravehearts cannot rap, and hey nas, because its just nas trying to make a pop song, which isnt a good idea, overall this is another great nas album, and any nas fan, or any hip hop fan for that matter should own it, nas AKA the greatest rapper of all time

5.0 out of 5 stars E 1999 ETERNAL-CLASSIC, 24 July 2006
This review is from: E. 1999 Eternal (Audio CD)
i only got this about 2 weeks ago, and i had to take two buses to get to HMV to buy it, so i was hoping that it would be good, and its more than good, its fantastic, one of the best rap albums ive ever heard, firstly, the beats are really good, they are kind of dark, really laid back, nice to listen to, but by no means pop and bone thugs n harmonies rapping on this is incredible, they deliver unbelievably fast lyrics which make your jaw drop when you hear them, they sing some of their choruses which is not a bad thing because they have good singing voices, the subject matter is basically stories about the streets, run-ins with the law, hustling, etc, and even though the subject matter may not be anything groundbreaking, their infectious flow and great voices mean you dont really mind, the lyrics are really good too, the bone thugs have a good vocabulary, and a really good rhyme scheme,(although the lyrics are a bit overly simplistic at times, this doesnt detract from the overall quality of the album), overall this is one of the best rap albums ever, i defimitely recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars MOBB DEEP-THE INFAMOUS-CLASSIC, 24 July 2006
This review is from: The Infamous (Audio CD)
this undoubtedly is one of the best rap albums ever made, it basically takes you through a day in the life in the new york projects, the production on this is gritty but really good, it has haunting piano samples and drum loops which really suit the dark mood of the songs and the album, havoc and prodigy are really good rappers as well, they may not be as charismatic as say, biggie, nas, or Big L, but they are still great, they both have really good flows(especially prodigy), really good lyrics, multi syllable rhyming and wordplay, the subject matter on this album is really dark too, mobb deep rap about running from police, friends in prison, depression, and various other things, although now mobb deep have signed to g unit and are really bad, back in 1995 they were great, if you are a rap fan i would highly recommend this, if you dont already have it, you will not be disappointed

4.0 out of 5 stars UNDERRATED-BUT ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD-4.5. STARS, 23 July 2006
This review is from: The Sound of Revenge (Audio CD)
it disappoints me that there are only 3 reviews of this album on amazon.co.uk, chamillionaire deserves to be so much more popular, the beats on this album are all really good, nice to listen to, but not too poppy or commerical, they sound very southern orientated(but chamillionaire is from the south), they suit chamillionaires flow, ah, my next point, chamillionaires flow is amazing, he can switch up styles to suit the song, he can flow really fast, or rap relatively slow, but he always sounds good, he is a really good lyricist too, he has a good multibar rhyming scheme, he has a good vocabulary, and has some really nice punchlines too, what i also like about him, is unlike other southern rappers(mike jones, paul wall) what he raps about has meaning, he doesnt just rap about girls, cars, rims, and shooting people, he raps about things to do with his life, growing up and life struggles, the only problem i have with this album is it has too many guest, i think there are something like 10 or 11 on the whole album, which means you dont get to hear chamillionaire as much as you'd like to, but overall, this is a really good rap album, that just falls short of being classic, but thumbs-up to chamillionaire!

3.0 out of 5 stars HES ALRIGHT-BUT NAME DROPS WAY TOO MUCH-2.5 STARS, 23 July 2006
This review is from: The Documentary (Audio CD)
there are some good points and bad points about this album, the good points are that the game has a good flow, a good voice which makes you pay attention, all the beats are very good, its cathcy, the choruses are good, and he raps about alot of different things, however, there are several things that stopped this album from being very good, and not just average, first off, the amount of times you hear the game namedrop is ridiculous, he cant go a verse without mentioning any member of NWA, kool g rap, nas, jay z, biggie or 2pac , it eventually becomes quite frustrating the amount he name drops, also, he does not have a particularly good multi-syllable rhyming scheme, his vocab is average, he has no good punchlines, metaphors or clever lyrics, and his ego is much too big for a rappper who just made his first album. I also dont like the fact the game glorifies being a blood(which i dont believe he was), if he really was a blood, he would realize how stupid it is to lead that sort of life, and he try and discourage it instead of glorifying it, also, the fact he claims so publicly to be a blood doesnt make sense, as far as im aware, being in a gang in america is illegal, so woulndt the police either arrest him or check out his background out to see if he really was a blood, plus, if he was a blood, its most likely he would be in jail or would have been to jail in the past, the game has got no crime record atall,so basically, this album is very average and the game is not a real blood, i would stay away from this

1.0 out of 5 stars REALLY BAD-STAY AWAY FROM THIS, 22 July 2006
This review is from: The Big Bang (Audio CD)
i didnt hear this, i heard it at my freinds house, and he didnt think it was that good either, and i cant tell you its rubbish, there are only 2 or 3 good songs on this, and thats only because of the beats, the rest of the songs are awful, all the songs are about the same stuff you hear in most rap nowadays, women, guns and money busta only uses a one bar rhyming scheme, and even though he is mean to be known for rapping extremely fast, he does not rap particualarly fast on any of the songs, even though this album has good guest appearances, they are not enough to save this album, stay away from this and by immortal techniques album due to come out, the middle passage, if you want a good 2006 album(well, it should be good, his first two were amazing), or by saigons album greatest story never told, which is also coming out this year(if thats anything like as good as warning shots it should be amazing). anyway, do not buy this, or any other aftermath/shady album that has come out in the past year, peace

2.0 out of 5 stars 2 STARS FOR SOME GOOD PUNCLINES-BUY HIS MIXTAPES INSTEAD, 17 Jun. 2006
This review is from: The Hunger For More (Audio CD)
lloyd banks had been tearing up the mixtape scene for a couple of years before this album came out, he came with his raspy flow and trademark punclines, his mixtapes were very good overall, and he was awarded mixtape artist of the year 2003, however, his album is a massive letdown, the production is good, nothing outstanding, but listenable, however, where it falls short is versatility and subject matter, all lloyd banks raps about how much of a gangster he is, which he is probably not, because the leader of his rap group is a snitch, how many women he has, and how big his chain is, it would be ok, if anyone actually cared, what happened to rapping about something meaningful or deep, lloyd banks does not seem to have that ability, also, he does nothing but punchlines, he is not veratile, he cannot do storytelling or political, or thoughtful tracks, as i said before, also, and he cant really rhyme, most of his rhymes dont make sense, and he relies heavily on his accent for words to rhyme, even though if you say them properly they hardly rhyme at all, he has a very monotone flow on this album, and raps with the skill of a 10 year old, even though their are some good punclines, if you buy some big l, Copywrite, j.r. writer mixtapes, or papoose mixtapes, you will see that all those rappers(especially big L) make lloyd banks's punchlines seem very elementary and weak, buy his mixtapes instead, stay away from this
