Mr Oliver's Object of Desire
Mr Oliver's Object of Desire
by V. G. Lee
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.68

5.0 out of 5 stars There's no such thing as ordinary people., 6 Nov. 2016
Have just finished Mr. Oliver's Object of Desire by VG Lee and as usual she doesn't disappoint. A fabulous read, I couldn't really put it down, tea breaks, lunch time and bed time Mr. Oliver was always by my side ready for me to dip into.
Her characters are beautifully observed and though you may not like them you simply have to find out what happens in their lives.
Even though it's darker in tone than some of her previous novels, I've read them all, it's still peppered with some real laugh out loud moments, I'd recommend this novel to any one whether male or female, it removes the surface and reveals the characters in all their perverse glory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even Rock and Roll has Fairy Tales.............and nightmares !, 1 Sept. 2016
I enjoyed Sherry's insights into the ups and downs of her long involvement with Eric Burdon. Life was certainly not a bowl of cherries and she certainly went through a whole lot of highs and lows during their relationship. I found her style of writing a bit over the top in a girly way but then she is a bit girly and American .
I would also say that it's written for quite a young audience, certainly I'd have recommended it to my daughter back in her teens.
There are some great insights into the trials and tribulations of living with a rock star and all the baggage that comes with it, such as the petty vanity and self importants of your partner. You've got to admire the girls determination.

Very close to the original but the female voices hit the high notes with less strain. All in all a welcome return for a great song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better second time around., 21 Feb. 2014

Having seen all the films on the big screen I was initially a little dubious about watching them a second time around. However after a trip to the Harry Potter Studio tour I thought I'd give it a try and I'm soooooo glad I did. For a start I realized I'd forgotten a good percentage of the stories and watching the films on TV was far more focused on the detail, something you can tend to overlook on the big screen where the larger set pieces tend to dominate.
Also being able to watch the films directly one after the other over 8 days made the series far more comprehensible. My partner and I had a week long Potter fest' and enjoyed every minute of it.

Because they were a 5 star rock band and i was their roadmananger. I would recommend that anyone interested in the development of a rock band in the early 70's should see this. there's humour, spinal tap moments, excitement, regrets and the sheer thrill of being in at the beginning of something massive!

3.0 out of 5 stars A sheep in Wolfs clothing., 22 July 2013

I initially bought this record for the theme to the TV series The Bridge, a musically haunting number with the added strangeness of
english lyrics being sung by someone with a strong nordic accent. This gave the number a whole other world quality.
Unfortunately the rest of the album consisted of much lighter weight bouncy pop numbers with the exception of one or two somewhat dirgy numbers. Hence I gave it away to someone else to see if appealed to them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jeff he played guitar........., 27 July 2010

From Dog Soldier, thru' Baker boys & Big Lebowski Jeff just has a way of making the character his own and in the guise of 'Bad Blake'a somewhat down at heel world weary country & western star he grabs it with both hands. It helps that he can play guitar, sing & somewhat resembles kris kristofferson.
It's a simple tale of a music star whose way past his best, still womanizing, drinking way too much & stuck on the small time circuit who finally confronts all his devils & deals with them. Co-starring Colin Farrel as his vastly more successful protege, Jeff ramains true to the spirit of dudeism whilst colin goes postal.Fortunately Jeff writes the songs that Colin sings so at least his pay cheques grown bigger.
At the end of the day , whether you like country music or not, as long as you like jeff, this is a film for YOU! Go see.
