4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Holiday Read, 17 April 2014
I love the tropics and I loved this wonderful travel book about the tropics. Fratter knows the tropics well given his own place of birth there and takes the reader on the most interesting journeys to off beat locations. The real skill of a travel writer is to take the reader to the locations they are describing. Fratter is also funny without trying to be funny which is very refreshing.

This review is from: To The Frontier (Paperback)
Well written and interesting account of the authors trip through the tribal areas that make up Pakistanis border. Given current events it would be a trip that would be currently impossible. Moorhouse portrays well the history and colour of the region. Highly enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lust Like an Adventure Story, 17 April 2014
This book truly read like an adventure story. Michael Asher has a great talent for making military history colourful and making the reader feel as if they were there at the scene of events. Very good book.

by Ian Knight
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Highly Detailed Account, 17 April 2014
This is a highly detailed and extremely well researched book and those who have a strong interest in the subject will doubtless enjoy it immensely. On the whole I have to say I did enjoy reading the book. However at times I did find the book dry and lacking a bit colour and frankly a little long and over blown.

Where the Indus is Young: A Winter in Baltistan
Where the Indus is Young: A Winter in Baltistan
by Dervla Murphy
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.99

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality, 17 April 2014
Having finished this book I wasn't sure who was the more stoic traveller Dervla Murphy or her 6 year old daughter Rachel? This is a fantastic book about an incredible journey taken through the epic Mountains and gorges of remote Baltistan. The Murphy's travel as only they can and that is as Spartan as possible throughout this most remote and rugged region. Murphy describes the mountains and gorges with wonder and passion. Anyone who enjoys high quality travel writing will enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Account of Events, 16 April 2014
Enjoyed reading this book a lot. I felt it provided a pretty comprehensive account of events on the British side of things. It also provided a significant insight into some of the senior and leading personalties charged with the defence of Malaya and Singapore. I would recommend this book for this interested in this subject.

Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War
by Robert Fisk
Edition: Paperback
Price: £11.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, 8 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I knew very little about the origins of the events surrounding the Lebanese civil war prior to reading this book. I certainly felt better informed having finished the book. I found that Robert Fisk writes in an entertaining style that makes it possible to digest the great amount of detail he presents, A must read for those interested in Lebanon's history.

4.0 out of 5 stars Right Choice, 8 April 2014
I think this book was an excellent choice for me. I wanted to read about the events at Alamein, understand their significance and get an insight into the people involved and what they went through rather than just being buried and lost in pure military history. This book delivered on all of the above and therefore i enjoyed reading it immensely.

Motoring with Mohammed: Journeys to Yemen and the Red Sea (Methuen non-fiction)
Motoring with Mohammed: Journeys to Yemen and the Red Sea (Methuen non-fiction)
by Eric Hansen
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Travel Book on Yemen, 8 April 2014
This is a good travel book written in an entertaining style. He provides a nice mix of history and context about Yemen with good descriptions of the culture and characters he encounters. Plus a nice dash of adventure with recalled shipwrecks on an obscure but politically sensitive island. An entertaining travel book on Yemen that is worth reading.
