Panasonic ES-RT37 Waterproof 3 Blade Electric Foil Shaver Wet/Dry for Men - Blue
Panasonic ES-RT37 Waterproof 3 Blade Electric Foil Shaver Wet/Dry for Men - Blue

4.0 out of 5 stars You could do worse..., 19 Aug. 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I generally tend to like Panasonic's products. They generally do a proper job of things, offering decent value, build quality, reliability and performance at their price points. Sadly, this isn't one of their better moments. In fairness, this is emphatically not an expensive electric razor. You get a fairly substantial piece of kit for your money, the plastics are solid if unattractive, and since it's a wet & dry design, there are soft-touch / leather effect sides to improve grip when hands are slippery. Sensible, and not always done on sub £50 razors of this type, so it's nice to see. The foils appear soild, the head's mild swivel is reasonably weighted. Being fairly hefty, this is not the sort of razor that naturally moves about the contours of a smaller face, although since it's unlikely to slip out of your hand, that goes some way to compensate for the slightly flat-footed manoeuverability. In terms of shave quality, it's acceptable but for me, not particularly good when used dry; somewhat better wet. I have a very tough beard though that many electric razors struggle to shave closely -inconveniently combined with a rather sensitive skin prone to burn / rashes, and that's more or less what I get: a not-very-good shave with a minor dose of razor burn. This will of course vary from person to person & also upon what you like and are used to, so this is simply a statement of my own experience and should not be taken as universal applicability. It will likely work superbly for many others, especially if you're lucky enough to have a softer beard or less-easily-irritated skin. If so, I suspect you'll be fine.

The additional trimmer is quite effective at cutting, although given the positioning on the spine and the modest extension length, detail work is slightly awkward as the hand and wrist can get in the sightline. Charge time is reasonably brisk, and it lasts well. Typical solid (perhaps stolid?) engineering. The packaging is what you would expect and does the job required of it, likewise the basic charger. It's easy enough to clean, though as usual with foils, can take a minute to do a thorough job.

All in all -it's OK. Frankly, it doesn't really suit my needs, but it should fit what many others require perfectly well. For the money, and with a few of the caveats mentioned in mind, it's worth considering.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasent, 28 July 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A pleasant oil, lightweight, easily absorbed but apparently quite effective, as oils go. A small amount seems to go a considerable way, so the small quantity lasts a reasonable amount of time, and the dropper-top seems a reasonable example of the type, allowing easy extraction. Since all cosmetics work differently on different skin types and people, it's difficult to comment on results as it will vary from person to person. However, it seemed lightly hydrating and smoothed the surface well while being non-greasy once absorbed. Not bad at all.

Silentnight Posture Plus Mattress Topper - Double, White
Silentnight Posture Plus Mattress Topper - Double, White
Price: £24.88

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable with some caveats, 11 July 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A good, relatively inexpensive mattress topper. It's supportive but perfectly comfortable and as usual with Silentnight products is very well made, with excellent stitching and quality materials throughout. In comfort, it certainly gives a new lease of life to an older mattress, and is not difficult to attach.

As is often the case with mattress toppers, the latter is the minor stumbling block. It's easy to attach to the mattress with the four convenient pieces of elastic at the corners. Keeping it attached to the mattress is another question entirely, as they simply are not sufficient, for me at least. One night I had to get up three times to adjust the thing, as it kept moving. I've eventually managed to keep it in place by using two (rather tight) fitted undersheets, which is not especially tragic, but not especially convenient either. Granted, I'm a light sleeper, but that's not unique, so may be worth keeping in mind. Still, if this isn't a problem, and presumably it isn't for many people, this seems a good, well made, comfortable mattress topper for a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars thought that a model bear sitting in a yoga position would be good for you, 11 July 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Who, exactly, thought that a model bear sitting in a yoga position would be good for you? And why did nobody hit them, and hold them down until the madness passed?

I'm glad they didn't because this is great. Not large, but nicely made, well-textured and shaded, with a peaceful expression. Essential? Hardly that, but this bear will make a soothing, relaxing presence on any patio, or in any garden. Mine lives on a chair, so I can look at it from the window. I like it a lot; it won't change the world, but this amiable bear has its place, and is a change from the usual garden ornaments. I like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent drill/driver, 11 Mar. 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Can you do better than this? Yes, of course. For just under £80 though you really can't go too wrong. I like Black + Decker gear; always have, since it's usually sensibly priced and works. Which is what this does. And you get a lot of technology packed into it, most obviously the new battery, which is interchangeable with some of their other products (good idea), a USB charger for mobile phones and the like (ditto) and bluetooth connectivity (a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I cannot conceive of the mind of a person who thought a drill battery needs that. Or that of his boss, who should have ordered him to go away and do his job properly before he fed him into the foam-flecked jaws of a rabid hyena).

Be that as it may, what we have here is a cordless rechargeable drill in a respectably modest form factor, with a fair amount of power, variable speed, a very effective LED light and a useful set of battery features. It's well built, a doddle to use, and clean when necessary, comes with a decent case, and holds a good charge -it won't flatten in a hurry. Charging time is moderate -I've seen faster, but they generally have an impact on battery life, so probably a good balance here. Speaking of balance, it's well-balanced in general use; the mass-distribution is good, so you aren't likely to need wrist surgery. Foaming idiocy about batteries that can 'talk' to a smartphone apart, this is an excellent product and well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable, but..., 11 Mar. 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I'm not completely convinced. On the positive side, it's nicely built, fairly light, the fastening for phones etc. seems quite solid, the styling is about as good as it's possible to get for something like this, and once it's dialled in, it does work within the limitations of the technology. Which is where it starts to go pear-shaped. Other reviewers have found it a pain to set up, and it was for me also. The internal lenses are OK, but require considerable adjustment to get a decent depth perspective. The quality of the results also depends on the size of the screen (bigger isn't necessarily better, especially if you're susceptible to issues in the periphery) and of course programme material, although there's plenty of that to be going on with and regular updates.

The biggest caveat is whether you feel this actually gives you anything of value, or if it's just another example of a solution to a requirement that never actually existed. I wouldn't go that far (I must be getting generous), but I don't think the technology is really ready yet, and I can't help feeling that it's a gimmick. Interesting, and certainly diverting for a while, but not a profound leap that is likely to find mass-appeal. Since the cost is low, it's fortunately not a massive risk to find out, so if you think this is something you'd like to try -it's a good place to start. Recommended then, with caveats.

JAPONESQUE Velvet Touch Face Palette
JAPONESQUE Velvet Touch Face Palette
Price: £35.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite good, 11 Mar. 2017
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Not a familiar name (to me), but not a bad product by any means. Since it's not really aimed at people like me, feedback on practical use is from a family member.

First impressions are good; a nice solid-feeling magnetically fixed case. Since this is not a budget item except for the very rich, one would hope for something better than a flimsy piece of plastic, but you don't always get it. Here you do. Texture on the case is also quite good, and the size is convenient for bags or even pockets if required. The pallet itself is well presented, and the quantity of the powders reasonable. The tone / colour range of the pallet is reasonable, given that they've had to limit it to include the contour and highlighter, which is fair enough and for many probably a good balance.

To touch, they have a decent feel, without excessive oil. Others have commented on the multiple-use potential either as blushers, highlighters, and that seems to hold good here also. Application is straightforward, the colours are very easy to blend, and appear to suit a reasonable range of different skin types without causing irritation. As noted, the quantities seem generous so it should last a while unless you layer it on with a trowel. If you need a wide range of colours, then other sets are likely to serve you better, but if you need a quality jack-of-all-trades, this will more than suffice, assuming the tones included suit. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mechanical watch offering good value., 13 Dec. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a stylish mechanical watch that offers excellent quality for what is a very reasonable price.

If you like watches, which I make no apologies for doing, and have a fondness for automatic / mechanical types, then this Invicta model should be high on the list for those on a moderate budget.

Things get off to a good start with the box it comes in. I can't honestly say I care for the almost fluorescent yellow colour, but that's purely a matter of personal taste. The construction is good, with soft-touch surfaces and reasonable solidity, with similar quality internal soft-lining. This would be no matter if the watch itself was not good, but it is. While not the largest, it's clearly very nicely engineered, of relatively modest weight. The leather strap and buckle are simple but good quality, and with the smooth surfaces you can wear it all day without snagging or any discomfort. The face, with surrounding blue ring, is a skeleton type, with the numbers arranged neatly and easily visible, which is often difficult with skeleton faces and why I normally avoid them. Again, construction appears to be of a good order, everything is cleanly executed, clear and precise. The colour scheme is rather good; in practice it is attractive but not especially ostentatious, making it a nicely stylish piece that is not shouting too loudly and suits both everyday and occasion-use. The crown is well-proportioned to the body, screws down nicely and feels reasonably strong -it is clearly well put together with good quality materials. Frankly, for the money I'm struggling to find anything to criticise. If you want a chronograph, then obviously it will not fit your needs, but if you want an attractive, well-made mechanical for a decent price, this comes very highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, crisp and versatile white, 10 Dec. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
In general, I have been ambivalent about Argentinian wines; there are many good ones, and it is far too simplistic to generalise wines from a nation or geographical region, just as it is simplistic to characterise food, fashion, cars or any other product. With that said, I have to admit rarely heading for South American wines in general; I usually tend to favour Spanish or Italian. Self-fulfilling prophesy perhaps. Taking this wine in isolation though, it is a very good offering.

No expert I, although I'm interested in wines. Here we have a pale to pale-straw colour in the glass, with a conventional but neatly presented bottle and label. The nose is slightly sharp, the lemon notes at the fore, although there is depth there, as you would hope from a good chardonnay, with some hazelnut notes and a touch of grass. In taste, again the lemon is prominent, although the pear noted is also present, along with some touches of freshly-baked bread -the advertising suggests brioche, although for me it is closer to a wholegrain with added cobb nuts. There is a faint suggestion of violets also. Although dry, the acidity is not excessive, nor are there too many mineral notes, which is a relief for me, as I have felt many whites have moved too far in this direction in recent years; it can help provide a crisp finish, but it pften comes at the expense of an excessive aftertaste. No such issues here; this will be a flexible wine that will do well with poultry or fish dishes in particular, or can be enjoyed by itself. As far as value goes, it seems reasonable. It is a good example of a wine in its price bracket (or slightly higher), and well worth investigating.
