I was going to write this review, but it would be fairer to let someone with the level of intellect it was clearly aimed at do the honours. Therefore please welcome Rover. (Short round of applause).

Hello and woof. Rover's name is Rover, which is a helpful way of remembering. But enough of clever stuff. This film is another of those "giant reptile on the loose in the big city" movies. Whilst Rover enjoyed similar things such as "Alligator", Rover was yawning all the way through this. Much of the first hour is taken up with a lot of military types and scientists telling us how big and tough the crocodile is, which is ironic really because the actual beastie-thingumy looks like Rover could have done better. And there lies the problem. Rover thought this film took itself SOOOOO seriously, and so there's nothing in it to make it at least fun. The crocodile isn't seen often enough to make this an entertainingly bad movie, and the ending is a total cop-out. Rover thinks he could have dealt with that dim reptile.

Rover must be off now. Rover has decided he will watch "Rogue", "Crocodile" or "Lake Placid" again. All much better than this boring pants.

Wanted: a Megalodon for the part of the monster in a film.

Requirements:

You must be able to devour the usual load of bikini-clad bimbos and wallies in bathing shorts and act them off the screen.

You must have a rubber fin.

You must have the ability to change size depending on who/what you are eating/fighting.

You must look like footage of a Great White Shark.

You must be able to star in a movie which, despite all of the above, is actually very entertaining and fun.

This isn't worth the bother. I bought it change photographs, create new photographic images and create covers for science fiction and horror novels. Frankly you'd be better off using the money to buy lots of pencils or paint brushes and pieces of paper. The processes in this so-called photo and graphic designer are so basic and clumsy there's really nothing you can do with it. And don't expect any help from the useless 'help' mode or the online website.

Unless you've got several thousand to spend on CGI technology then the best way of creating your own pictures is by hand.

Dinosaurs must be one of the most over-abused animals in film history. It's therefore disheartening that good dinosaur films are so difficult to find. This one sees a return to the "lost world" theme of old. A group of people, in this case a team of military types, find a remote area where prehistoric beasts still exist. Along the way they discover a character who has left society to live among the dinos in the wild.

If you're looking for something with the special effects of "Jurassic Park" you'll be disappointed, as the creatures in this film are kind of low-budget CGI. If, on the other hand, you just want a dinosaur romp then this will be just your cup of tea. It's fun and it entertains.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another rubbush Toshiba machine, 21 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After my previous Toshiba DVD/VHS player conked out after two years (for some reason the 3-year warranty I spent £45 on was invalid) I bought a new Toshiba DVD/VHS player which failed to work properly (it switched itself off if you played a cassette and the sound was often distorted). I ordered this machine only to find the DVD tray refuses to open. The flap jerks a bit but the tray will not open after many attempts.

Do not buy a Toshiba DVD/VHS player. Whether they are intentionally trying to faze out DVD/VHS machines I don't know, but if that's the case I wish they'd just stop making them rather than messing people about like this.

I see all other makes of DVD/VHS transfer machines have been discontinued, leaving only the unreliable Toshiba rubbish. You'd be better off buying a machine from some street corner trader in sunglasses and a grubby mac. If you have an old VHS player then look after it, because you can no longer transfer your collection to DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A chilling tale, 9 Jan. 2014
In the future the Earth has become an icy wasteland where glaciers threaten to engulf everyone. Then a mysterious man in armour is found in the ice, and when he thaws out he is revealed to be a stranded alien who revives his cronies and is soon threatening the local humans.

As a way of introducing the Ice Warriors, this works well. The story is interesting, there are strong performances from the cast and now there is a chance to see the two missing episodes. But there lies the problem. Nothing much actually happens in them, although there is character-building between two of the visiting cast (both good actors). Like a lot of six-parters, this is an episode or two over-length. It's still good sci-fi drama, but "Seeds of Death" is a much better choice if you want an old Ice Warrior story. The animation is reasonable and the usual wealth of extras make this a must for fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good film, 6 Jan. 2014
This review is from: Octopus [DVD] (DVD)
A Russian submarine attempts to deliver nuclear cargo to Cuba. After being destroyed by the US army, the underwater explosion causes an octopus to mutate to huge size. Nearly forty years later, the beast is still out there.

It's true the octopus itself is only sparingly used, but like "Jaws" this is more about suspense and character-building. It is also a dark gritty tale of international terrorism combined with a genuine tense claustrophobic thriller as a group of characters are trapped underwater in a disabled submarine.

Maybe not for someone who just wants monster-rampage action, but a great film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Keep a crossword puzzle handy., 6 Jan. 2014
A pair of intrepid explorers decide to track down a hominoid-like creature which lurks around a lake.

After an hour and a half of waiting for this movie to start, it doesn't. This feels like an attempt to create a home movie version of "Creature from the Black Lagoon". The film looks washed out and grainy. Not only that, but often it's painfully obvious only one camera is in use. During conversations the screen 'slides' back and forth between characters rather than cutting to different angles to show their faces.

Perhaps I'm being too critical and this film actually breaks new ground by being a monster movie where the characters fail to actually find (or even see) the monster. Blink and you'd miss it.

Now, how many 'm's are there in 'remembrance'?

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this, 22 Dec. 2013

I have had this item for about a week now. So far it has failed to play or transfer several cassettes properly (try to play a VHS tape and the sound keeps becoming distorted, as though it keeps trying to play the tape too quickly). When I've tried to play a DVD the sound kept distorting and then the machine switched itself off. This was a replacement for a previous Toshiba recorder of the same model which worked alright for two years before refusing to play tapes. Now it won't play anything. Every time I try to play or rewind a tape it just switches itself off. The same thing happened to the other one of the same model, although that lasted two years rather than a week.

Don't buy this. It's an expensive turkey.
