5.0 out of 5 stars Great mystery, 11 Nov. 2015

This is a beautifully written story about a young girl who finds herself embroiled in an intriguing family mystery. The author has done a good job of capturing the mood and atmosphere of the various times and settings - post war France and 1960's Cornwall. The complex relationships between the main characters is well drawn and the mystery is well paced, leading to a satisfactory and convincing conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars cozy mystery set in rural Goa - what's not to like?, 24 Sept. 2015

The thing I like about cozy mysteries isn't so much the mystery itself, but rather the feel and ambiance of the setting. This is why, when I discovered a new detective series set in rural Goa, I was instantly intrigued. Never having visited India, I longed to be transported to another world. And boy, did this book deliver! It simply oozes with the bright and exotic sounds, colours and tastes of Goa. It's a light hearted story filled with funny characters and dialogue. Detective Chupplejeep is a great little creation. I expect this series is going to do well, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Chupplejeep on our television screens in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars cheers you up at a time when you're feeling low, 5 April 2015

The personable author has a light and eloquent writing style and an uncanny ability to lift your spirits with her quirky and positive outlook on life. It's an enjoyable read, even if you are not feeling loveless, homeless, jobless, etc... Reading this book is like having one of those late night chats with a good friend over a bottle of wine, which cheers you up at a time when you're feeling low. It's one of those books everyone must have lying around at home, so that they have something to turn to whenever they need a pep talk.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect holiday book and a great read for a long commute!, 25 Jan. 2015

A young woman wakes up one day confused, with sore wrists and a sore neck and a horrible feeling that something sinister has occurred. But she has no memory of the past few days. Has she been drugged and abducted? If so by who? The author craftily intertwines various seemingly interconnected stories and slowly builds them up towards a believable and surprising climax, leaving a mini cliffhanger at the end of each chapter which keeps you wanting to read more. I really like the ease and lightness of the writing, even though the story can get dark and heavy at times.

3.0 out of 5 stars Little Women meet Jack the Ripper, 29 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the novel were Thomas and Charlotte meet. Inspector Pitt comes to Charlotte's home to interview her family about a series of horrific murders of young women which occurred down the road in Cater Street. They fall in love during the course of the investigation and end up marrying. The novel is a clever combination of 'Little Women' and Jack The Ripper which is sure to appeal to all those young ladies longing for murder and romance, but it didn't do much for me. It was a little too feminine and predictable for my liking.
