Life After Life
Life After Life
by Kate Atkinson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.59

3.0 out of 5 stars Alternative, 29 July 2016
This review is from: Life After Life (Paperback)
Beautifully written book and certain sections were very engaging indeed where you could identify with the thoughts and feelings of the characters. However, other sections were drawn-out and a bit tedious. I wished for this to be a more straightforward story of Ursula's life, not her alternative lives.

The Eighth Circle of Hell (Atticus & Lucie Fox)
The Eighth Circle of Hell (Atticus & Lucie Fox)
Price: £3.11

5.0 out of 5 stars Atticus Fox and His Wife Uncover Terrible Truths, 12 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Cleverly written and researched. This is set in Victorian England where 'polite' society mask nasty hidden secrets. This is a very powerful story about Elizabeth, who is now elderly with dementia, but who remembers things from her terrible past. It is not just that, though, there is something about this book, it has more depth than most page-turning stories. It is mystic, it is disturbing, it is shocking and you realise that these things actually did happen to unfortunate people like Elizabeth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric and Enjoyable, 14 Jun. 2016

The final book in this series. Atmospheric and enjoyable read. I gave the other two books five stars each but this four stars because it was a touch disjointed in places. Nevertheless, I would thoroughly recommend reading it if you enjoyed the others.

Exceptional writing. Everything you could wish for in a mystery.

This book is so well-written. The setting and characterisation are marvellous. Fin, the policeman, is a multi-faceted character and you cannot guess the ending of the story until it happens.

I waited a while before reviewing this bag as I wanted to see if it held up in strength to the shopping I would require it to take. Yes, it does! And, it is pretty, folds away neatly in a handbag or pocket and worth the money.

The Woman Who Walked into the Sea (The Sea Detective)

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing to the End. Excellent, 24 Mar. 2016

After reading a few other reviews I didn't expect this book to be as good as it was. The Sea Detective, Cal, was helping to 'detect' again. This was a book of many twists and turns and kept me intrigued to the end. Well-written, good pace and voice. I highly recommend it.

I would say this is one of Ken Follett's best mystery books. You can't put it down. There is the setting, the snow, the complicated theft and interaction between family members as they meet at the family home for Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superbly Well-Written, Unusual, Detective Story, 7 Mar. 2016

This review is from: The Sea Detective (Kindle Edition)
One of the most unusual and well-written books I have ever read. It deals with a very dark subject but the 'sea detective' is such a good character and, as he begins to solve the mystery, you like him more and more. There is humour as the female police officer lets us 'know' her thoughts as she deals with her 'superior' officer.

A very interesting insight into Alan Bennett's family life. I would have liked to read more about his father in this book but, nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and the descriptions of the characters - aunts etc.
