Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow [DVD] [2014]
Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow [DVD] [2014]
Dvd ~ Tom Cruise
Price: £4.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff., 20 April 2015

Tome Cruise has fairly quietly had a great SF film career; I like all of them but this is outstanding; the action is excellent, the use of time travel correct (for a change!) and (mostly) some great characters/acting. The CGI is better than a lot of films, but still not correct, its the usual we just have to accept it - the exception is the aliens, something different and well "drawn". It's also a film that actually recognises its audience has a brain, (we're not drip fed all the changes/learning etc). Highly Recommended, especially if you like action, SF, Tom Cruise or Emily Blunt.

Some great ideas, some good acting but just a bit slow for me, watched to the end though so pretty good!

Nothing particularly new story wise, but well acted, well shot and flows nicely. Don't expect another Saving Private Ryan; this film didn;t have the budget for a start, but there are similarities between the 2 films. Worth watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read, 20 April 2015

If you like Military SF, you'll like this novel too, and the joy of several more that follow. Enjoyable but nothing particularly new in it, I devoured it in a couple of days so must be a good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality, 20 April 2015

Good quality cover, thicker plastic than some I've seen, fits my 635 very well. Being thicker, be aware you may need a larger case if you are planning to put the phone in something to protect the screen as well. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a dabble in magic..., 20 April 2015

My wife has read the books, and says this series is pretty true to them; I haven't so just watched another vampire/occult show. It does have a bit of a different twist to the usual and I found it quite enjoyable, but can see why it wasn't renewed for another season. There is a bit of lack of chemistry between Dresden and the police woman he assists sometimes, why isn't always made clear; I found I didn't care that much about the main character, but the story lines were generally very good. worth a dabble if you like Supernatural (will seem calm in comparison), Buffy etc. and similar shows.

Rizzoli and Isles - Season 3 [DVD]
Rizzoli and Isles - Season 3 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Angie Harmon
Price: £11.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff., 20 April 2015

I didn't feel this series was as strong as series 2, but still very enjoyable. The main characters are good, the relationship is a key focus of the series but it has almost become an ensemble show, and is well written. Do watch series 1 & 2 first though!

Twelve O' Clock High/633 Squadron/The Blue Max [DVD]
Twelve O' Clock High/633 Squadron/The Blue Max [DVD]
Dvd ~ Gregory Peck
Offered by Discs4all
Price: £5.87

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Starter for 10., 20 April 2015

I bought this set as I fancied seeing 633 squadron again. I'll never tire of watching /hearing Mosquitos but the film wasn't as good as I remembered, the raid sequence & ending is very good though.. Twelve O Clock high I would of liked to have more combat footage in, but is well paced & a great story. The combat footage is real WW2 filming which makes watching the planes break up, explode etc. a bit more poignant. Well worth watching. I'm not very interesting in WW1 planes, but the Blue Max was interesting as done from a German perspective; interesting story and fairly well acted, again a good ending. All in all a good set if you want some older war films, (i.e. less gore/angst etc). recomended.

The Martian
The Martian
by Andy Weir
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Read for excellent near future Sci-fi., 30 Mar. 2015
This review is from: The Martian (Paperback)
The strap line on the cover - Gravity meets Robinson Crusoe is not far off; it reminded me of the Arthur C Clarke short stories/novels about Man going into space, and that's a major compliment. Not sure someone as funny as Mark (the main character) would really be able to become an astronaut, but you'll be glad he did as we share his adventure. Highly, highly recommended.

A Bridge Too Far/The Great Escape/Battle Of Britain [DVD]
A Bridge Too Far/The Great Escape/Battle Of Britain [DVD]
Dvd ~ Dirk Bogarde
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Starter pack., 22 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought as I wanted to see the Battle of Britain again; still a great war film and basically accurate history wise. I realised I had seen the other 2 films but had forgotten. They too are basically accurate history wise, but not as good film entertainment. The Great Escape has some very good sequences in it, and A Bridge Too Far is pretty realistic for the era of its production, though probably considered tame in this post Saving Private Ryan era. If you want to start learning about WW2, these films aren't a bad place to start; you'll be on a lifetime of discovery...
