by Ian Gilbert
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars The magical journey of a MAD box!, 16 Feb. 2017
This is a truly magical book. This expertly written story, message and resource available to get you thinking about your MAD box has given me food for thought and got me so excited about its message and philosophy around thinking and learning that I have now read it 6 times. Every time I turn the page I am eager to know more, discover the deep thinking behind the story and share its message with others as much as I can. It's one of the best books I have read for years. Without giving away the contents too much, it's safe to say I will be highly recommending to all teachers, parents and children so they too can think about their own MAD box. It's a MUST read for anyone and everyone, but as educationalists and practitioners you will have a wealth of thinking questions, a beautiful story and a magical journey of well being. Thank you Gilbert (I) & Gilbert (A) for bringing to us a wonderful book. Get it....NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars I've got the Guerrilla bug!, 1 Oct. 2015
What an amazing book. Jonathan Lear’s superb ‘Guerilla teaching’ and learning has gripped me from cover to cover. The ideas, strategies and philosophy of teaching is quite a breath of fresh air. I’d like to tell you all about the spectacular moments where Jonathan shares the magic of teaching and hooking the learners into a curriculum of wonder and excitement, but then I’d have to tell you all the hidden secrets which are cleverly intertwined in the book. It’s a must read for every teacher in Primary schools, but hang on, it’s also an amazing journey about questioning what we do as teachers. It’s for everyone. Do we really need to conform to everything ‘others’ tell us we should be doing? It’s about putting children and learning first. It’s all about a magical learning experience, it’s all about getting to be a ‘Guerilla in the midst of classroom”

This is a book that will resonate with those of you who want the best for children and their learning, even if at times you need to be that Guerilla. Fantastic, loved it, can’t put it down. Congratulations Jonathan on a superb book. It’s a MUST for any 21st Century teacher.

I've just been going Hmmmmm....ever since I had the pleasure of entering Sparky Teaching's world of thinking, questioning and delving into my own brain to unravel some of the amazing activities and questions in this book. It goes with me everywhere...literally, and so many teachers have been doing lots of 'Hmmmm' since reading it. But what about the learners....yes there's an amazing section in there for your students too. Thank you Sparky for continually sparking my own 'Hmmmm Thinking'. It's a gem...a rare one which every school and educationalist should have. Sparky, you rock.

Perfect ICT Every Lesson
Perfect ICT Every Lesson
by Mark Anderson
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £10.99

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect book for Perfect ICT in every lesson - thank you:-), 8 Nov. 2013
Mark Anderson is a master craftsman when it comes to ICT and his 'Perfect ICT Every Lesson Book' is in itself a true reflection of his mastery and genius as a guru of ICT for education. Speaking from the heart he has cleverly engrossed me as a teacher, consultant and 'learner' of using ICT in lessons. His step by step guide to supporting us as educationalists in using ICT effectively in every lesson is to be highly commended, along with his magical way of sharing what can be complex into a simple approachable set of guidelines. Also, the attitude of 'give it a go' is truly refreshing. Mark, (@ICTEvangelist) is not only a great writer but a pedagogical genius of the art of sharing and explaining what is needed for us to meet the needs of our 21st Century learners - and if we do not meet their needs then we are being second rate teachers. A great thanks to him for bringing us this book which every teacher, educationalist and school should have in their back pocket - because when you need him most, the power of his book is there with you 24/7.

This is an essential purchase for any teacher in the classroom or educationalist who wants to develop their own ICT skills. Thank you Mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Beere gets an "Outstanding' from me !, 30 April 2012
Jackie Beere's `The Perfect Ofsted Inspection 2012 Framework' gets an `Outstanding' grade from me. Her wonderful style of writing along with professional and practical approach to helping and supporting schools `get it right', is indeed an enjoyable and thought provoking read.

She has brilliantly set out each section so that it can be used as it's own framework to get Communities of Learners and Leadership in Education to think strategically as well as creatively about assessing and reviewing `where they are' in preparation for an Inspection. However, I see this book as a Bible for effective Learning & Teaching, Management & Leadership as well as including Learners, Parents & Governors alike.

Each Chapter has some wonderul `Tips and Tools' for developing outstanding practice and let it be known that her `words of wisdom' can have an overwhelming impact on the Learning & Teaching in your own classrooms - I have done it myself - and proof is in the pudding.

This is NOT JUST a book for `The Perfect Ofsted Inspection' but a brilliant book that every educationalist should use and implement in order to ensure that our Learners get the best, creative and most thought provoking education we can deliver in the 21st Century.
Jackie Beere hits the high notes once again - to you I say `Thank you'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly thought provoking., 11 May 2011
'The Perfect (Ofsted) Lesson' should be viewed as an essential tool for all teachers. Jackie's experience and expertise in the field of education is clearly shared with us all in this book. It is equally useful for those teachers who are inspected by ESTYN as well as OFSTED and her pedagogical knowledge is embedded throughout the whole book. This is a MUST for all practising teachers - and maybe some OFSTED Inspectors should read it too ! Yet another example of Jackie's brilliance as an innovator and leader within education. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST have book for any educationalist !, 14 July 2010
The extraordinary, superwonderful, amazingly brilliant Phil Beadle brings to us one of the most inspiring books about Teaching to hit the shelves in decades. His truthful, if somewhat shocking tales for some of you (NOT ME !) will indeed inspire you and make you think (hard) about teaching and learning.

Phil, thank you once again for making teachers feel special and to share with the world of education a 'fresh' insight into amazing teaching.

Bring us more.....that's an order.

Brilliant book.....dare all of you out there to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waw....amazing !, 30 Jun. 2009
Book review : `Letting go of the Glitz' - Juila Stephenson.

Waw....waw...waw...brilliant, inspirational, thought provoking and passionate. Julia Stephenson's book `Letting go of the Glitz' is nothing short of brilliant.
The book take us on a private journey of happiness and sadness, determination and conflict, where Julia takes her life as a `glitzy, glamorous' `IT-GIRL' and turns her life around to become more eco-friendly and `green'.

She shares with us her passion to turn around what was an unhappy time for her, into a life where she has fulfilment and joy in her new lifestyle as an eco-warrior. Her passion, enthusiasm and determination to make a difference to her own life and the world around us by embracing an eco-friendly stance on life should be an example to us all.
Remembering that this is a journey of self-discovery, experimentation and a battle with `high-society' lifestyle, it is by no means a `directive' or `reference book' telling everyone they must `go green'. The book is an honest, self-analysing journey which Julia has so kindly shared with us - even if some of her personal opinions have caused waves of disharmony amongst the so called `IT-People' of society - who ever they might think they are !
Her candid and knowledgeable approach in searching for answers has left me laughing out loud, crying with joy (and sadness), and inspired to change my own life - because no one else can do it for me.
It's a book you can't put down when you start reading it.....it will make you angry, happy, sad and overjoyed when Julia (so honestly) shares her battle with high-society, trying to change to a simple but happy life, with her wood burning stove, the prospect of wind turbines on the roof of her Chelsea flat and giving up and addiction with Black Cabs ! The detox period for changing from `IT-GIRL' to `HAPPY GO LUCKY GIRL' has begun and the book is the beginning of this life-long journey.
From the `Good-Life' in the country that goes all wrong and spiritual shopping that drains the wallet, to being labelled as an `It-Girl', Julia embarks on discovering who she really is (even though she might not have discovered who she really is yet....she is well on the way!) Being tempted by Life Coaches to discovering Buddhism, dating all the wrong guys and trying to ditch the `flying craze' Julia, has made some amazing transformations which should be applauded and recognised.
Finding happiness (and lots of heated arguments!) with the new man in her life, known as `S', the book begins to have a calmer and happier feel towards to end......where she is obviously more comfortable with her life and not battling with demons of `Car Park Shops' anymore.
Without giving too much away......EVERYONE should read this book.....it is so beautifully written and is a private relationship between you and the author where she makes you think, want to get up and scream, have men urinating in your compost bin and taking the train to Switzerland rather than flying off to Hawaii (even though you know you want to!). It is very humbling to know that one great lady has begun to make a difference to her own life, the lives of others (and mine!) by becoming `Greener' and `Simpler' - but not in the intellectual sense (pardon the pun).
If anything, this review is a `Thank you' to Julia Stephenson who has made some of her readers step back and analyse their own lives......why live a lie when you can live the dream......and live the treasures of the heart'.

Can't wait for the next book......'From Black Cab Detox to Windmills in the Sky' - (I know their turbines, but it sounds better!) and the wedding with `S', get writing Julia.....the world needs Part 2 of `The Green Goddess'
I'm now getting all my friends (and schoolchildren) to buy the book !
