5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, 22 Aug. 2011
I enjoyed both 'The Man of Passage' and 'Bride Price' but 'Man in a Mud Hut' is my favourite in the African Memoir series so far. The book describes how Desmond, more at home in an office in the UK, is forced by various circumstances to adjust to life in an isolated African village for much longer than he intended. Some of the events are amusing, others horrifying but all captivating, I found it difficult to put the book down. Another interesting insight into African life over 30 years ago from someone who lived there among the people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight into another culture, 14 Mar. 2011
From the very first page my attention was captured by this very honest account of the experiences of the author who was very much involved in the day to day life of the people involved. The detailed descriptions of the characters, environment and events brought the story to life. It is a touching and moving account made more poignant by the fact that we don't know what happened in the following years for Abele. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little book, 14 Sept. 2009
My nine year old daughter loved this especially as she can dip in and out of its short pieces and has repeated various interesting facts back to me. A great gift idea.
