Sinead O'Connor, 13 April 2006
Being Irish you might think that I would be flying the flag and shouting from the rooftops, how wonderful an ambassador for our country Sinead O'Connor is. Not a chance! She's dreadful and particularly so on this album - on all 3 songs (yes that's right, THREE songs). The one thing that she had going for her was..... Actually, I don't know what she ever had going for her. And I certainly don't know what the depleted ranks of Massive Attack think she has going for her. Cheap maybe? It certainly can't be her voice, can it?
The dark, dangerous, haunting and sometimes wonderfully un-nerving tones and vocals of 'Mezzanine' are absent from this latest offering. There's nothing here but Mediocrity. No classics to pull out of the bag like 'Teardrops'.
This whole album is so poor and didn't improve, for me, even after continuously playing over and over again. In fact it has put me off buying their recently released Greatest Hits album.
Possibly time for a bit of a re-think!
