Folk without being TOO folk, The Rails show pretenders such as Mumford & Sons how to do contemporary folk properly. Influenced by Kami Thompson's parents Richard and Linda, this record rightfully revives Island's pink label with style.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Beatle solo album, 14 May 2014
This review is from: All Things Must Pass (Audio CD)
Overall I have to say this album is the best solo album that any of the Beatles made. A glorious outpouring of emotive songs that proved that George had finally become an equal songwriting talent to Lennon and McCartney. Collaborators include Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Ringo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Album sounding great, 2 May 2014

Aside from the far-from-essential bonus tracks- contemporary singers covering (murdering) Elton's classic songs, this is a great CD remaster. Stick with the main disc in the set and you're in for a treat. Some of the live bonus tracks are okay, but you won't really want to listen to them again and again, unlike the main album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crosby with a little help from his friends, 2 May 2014

If you like Crosby Stills Nash and Young, you'll probably like this underrated solo album. It features the others, with the exception of Stills, alongside appearances from the likes of Joni Mitchell and members of the Grateful Dead and Santana.

Great acting performances from Pitt and Juliet Lewis. Keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way to its climactic end

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of an album, 2 May 2014
This review is from: One For The Road (Audio CD)
Finally an acoustic singer/songwriter who is up there with Cat Stevens, John Martyn and Nick Drake, without sounding like it's mining from the past. This album is beautifully produced, bringing Sam's chiming acoustic arpeggios to the fore, and showcasing his beautiful vocal delivery.
I first came across Sam Sallon when I heard the single Long Way Down on Radio 2. Certainly one of the highlights of One For The Road, this has a chorus that had me singing it for weeks! Some tracks are delicate acoustic songs with heart-rending string arrangements such as Keep Moving and You Are Home, and others are with a full band, such as It's Not Hard To Lose Your Way and You May Not Mean To Hurt Me. The album's musicians include pianist Neil Cowley (who has played with Adele and Emeli Sande) and singer Kami Thompson (very talented daughter of Richard and Linda).
It's very rare nowadays to come across such a gem of a record. I think we'll be hearing a lot more about Sam Sallon in the next few years… I hope!
