5.0 out of 5 stars Take a gamble on a new writer, it is well worth it!, 17 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Buying a book by a new author is always a gamble, however if you buy Scott Cairns' debut novel you will not be disappointed.

It is a beatifully written book, with compelling characters and a plot that sucks you in from the very beginning and then twist and turns you all around right until the very end. I didn't want the book to end and wondered about the characters future when I closed the book for the last time. It put me in mind of such books as 'Fingersmith or 'The Crimson Petal and the White'. An excellent read that I recommend to my friends.

I can't wait for Scott's next novel - hurry up!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Buzz who won't break the bank!, 20 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: TOY STORY BUZZ LIGHTYEAR (Toy)
We wanted a small Buzz Lightyear for our son and this was perfect. He is not too expensive and does not break no matter what adventures a 3 year old takes him on!
He may not light up or do any fancy talking but my son's imagination fills in those gaps easily. The are also Jessie and Woody figures that are the same size and buying all 3 is still cheaper than some of the bigger fancier Buzzes that seem to break quite easily and will provide more fun and potential for adventures!!!
A very good toy and have got more than our money's worth and it is still being used on a daily basis!
Plus he fits in a handbag!!!!!!!

We bought this for my little boy for a nursery bag. It is the perfect size for him to be able to wear but also to be able to fit his stuff into.
It has a handy little pocket on the front.
Lovely bright colours and characters on the front. Very cute!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to 'Big Boy Lego'!, 20 Nov. 2011
This is a great toy.
My son is getting to an age where we thought he might be ready for 'proper Lego' rather than Duplo. This small set was a great way to test this out without spending a fortune.
The castle theme is a great idea for little boys. Parents who have children who like 'Mike The Knight' might find this a good introduction to Lego.
You have enough pieces to be caries with but also can follow the instructions to make the castle.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good alternative, 20 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product is very good. As with all Playmobil products there are some very small and fiddley bits but if you are fine with that then it really is very good. Some of the days were not quite as good as others but it all fits together for a great toy in the end.
There is a key on the back for parents so they know which day has what toy in it. This was useful for us as we were using it as a surprise incentive toy for potty training. We didn't need 24 days so we put together some of the very small and less exciting days!
My 3.5 year old son loved it

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously ridiculous!, 20 Nov. 2011

I challenge you to read this book and keep a straight face! It can't be done!!!!
Allow yourself to swept along into a world of bizarre, absurd and crazy behaviour. Embrace the nonsense and revel in the ridiculous.
Seriously (if I can be permitted to associate such a word with this book) for 99p you can't go wrong.
If you are studying Drama at uni then you could use these stories to inspire some wacky improvisations! I can imagine them to be a cross of French and Saunders combined with Blackadder with a dash of Little Britain sprinkled over if they were brought to life in performance!
My personal favourite in this collection is 'Mother Knows Best' . Short and sweet and spot on!
I look forward to further craziness in the future from these writers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for those with fussy feeders, but handy advice for all parents looking to encourage good eating habits, 7 Sept. 2010
This book is a very accessible and useful to all parents not just those who have fussy eaters at home! Toddlers often become fussier or have phases and days where they are fussier than usual and this book has lots of ideas and suggestions to help in these situations. People who are yet to wean their baby could also benefit from some of the advice about preventing fussy eaters.
You don't need to follow Gina Ford's Contented Baby routines to access this book.
There are some useful case studies and FAQ for readers who have more difficulty with their little one's diets, information about nutrition and healthy eating and ideas for how to encourage an interest in food in kids. There are also some very good and simple recipes included.
It condenses some ideas from Gina Ford's bigger books on weaning and eating but for £5 (or less if there's an offer!)you can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for those with newborns, especially first time parents, 18 May 2010
When you have a little one and they are crying their eyes out sometimes you just cannot think what to do and how to work out what the problem is. This is where this book comes in. It is comprehensive enough to give you sound advice and plenty of it but organised in such a way that it is easy to read and find the potential answer to why your baby is crying.

Divided into clearly headed chapters; each one covers one of the main causes for a baby crying. Beginning with hunger which Gina identifies as 'one of the most common causes for babies to be unhappy or unsettled'. She then moves on to cover sleep, stimulation, feeding problems, separation anxiety, before briefly concluding with any other causes (such as teething or illness). Chances are by the time you have got through only a couple of chapters you'll have found a solution and almost certainly by the end of the book!!

Even if you are unsure about Gina Ford's methods and consider her routines to be too strict for you and your little one then give this book a chance, this book might be the Gina book for you! It gives suggestions of times for naps and feeds to help you identify if your little one is eating and sleeping enough (actually as a first time parent I would have found that helpful as I had no idea!) I have used many of her books and have found her advice invaluable. I would agree with other reviews in saying that it is a collection of tips from other books however the layout makes points more accessible for you especially if you have a young child and are focusing specifically on a crying problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and full of fantastic recipes and ideas, 4 Aug. 2009
This is a fantastic book and I really recommend it to anyone with children.
Making sure my little boy is well fed and enjoys his food is very important to me and this book is a fantastic help with this.
It is full of useful information about food groups, ideas for lunchboxes, picnics, eating out, alternatives for breakfasts, getting children involved with cooking - in fact allsorts of information!!
There is also a fantastic recipe chapter with a range of types of food as well as menu planners and shopping lists. I have been delving in and out of it but if you are less confident with cooking and feeding then you could follow the plans for a very varied, nutritionally balanced and tasty week of meals for your little ones and for you!
If you use Gina's other books the recipes fit well with the advice in those, but if you have never read a book by Gina Ford or have no intention of following her routines this is still a fab book for you.
The illustrations are also lovely and all in all a brilliant book which is a bargain especially at the current price!
Buy it and you will use it!
