Mysticism: Experience, Response, and Empowerment (Hermeneutics: Studies in the History of Religions)
Mysticism: Experience, Response, and Empowerment (Hermeneutics: Studies in the History of Religions)
by Jess Hollenback
Edition: Paperback
Price: £29.95

5.0 out of 5 stars A rather complex book, 8 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I just received this book last week. I though i can read it through in some days as i do with other books, but it turned out, i can progress very slowly. The reason is that this book is not really a "Mysticism for dummies" but an academic work. So although the book is easy to read, you definitely will take notes and do some research during the reading because it contains so many information and references. Eventually I like this book, but for starter, i would look for something else.

The Revised Foil
The Revised Foil
by Charles A. Selberg
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, 8 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Revised Foil (Paperback)
This is an excellent book about foil fencing for beginners: it contains very good information about the development of fencing, clear description of techniques, mental tactics and great photographs of parry positions which i missed from other books.
I loved the way he explains fencing in a clear and understandable form. However, this book does not contain a huge amount of drills and exercises, and is written in the time when electric fencing started to rise. If you want to win the next Olympics or looking for coaching tips or advanced drills, i don't recommend it. If you are a classical fencer, or someone who is also interested in the historical development of foil fencing, i highly recommend it.

The Complete Guide to Fencing
The Complete Guide to Fencing
by Berndt Barth
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty nice book describing the german style of fencing, 23 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book after reading the recommendations. The book describes the german method of teaching foil, epee, and sabre fencing, along with the history of modern fencing from a german viewpoint. There are better technical books, but as describing a complete system including how and what to teach it is pretty nice. I bought an used copy, and was worth every penny.

Trattato di scherma col bastone da passeggio
Trattato di scherma col bastone da passeggio
by Giannino Martinelli
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars An great italian book about stick-play, 28 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book to make a comparision between vintage italian self-defense system and the french defense dans la rue techniques. And what a gem. This book contains lots of pages about handling the cane and fencing with it (more dueling, than self-defense) and some chapters about the use of the punches and low kicks, and some self-defense tricks. I wish there would be an english translation of this book. Highly recommended for researches and alike.

The Complete Kano Jiu-Jitsu (Judo)
The Complete Kano Jiu-Jitsu (Judo)
by H Irving Hancock
Edition: Paperback
Price: £15.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good book about old-school jujitsu, 28 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book after reading the review. I did not expected to get a kodokan judo book, but an oldschool jujitsu book from the era of the beginning of kodokan judo, where the founder started to incorporate different styles. This book is a very good quality, contains huge amount of throws and counters even against western wrestling techniques (like double nelson). This is a must have book for everyone interested in old-school jujitsu.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true gem, 26 Sept. 2012
I ordered this book and received in just 3 days. As a bartitsu practitioner I was aware of the content
of the book, but never imagined such a high quality of binding and typography. This was a really surprise.
This book is a true gem itself, and it worth every penny. I highly recommend to every book lover martial
artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introductional video, 4 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I received this dvd by the postal service in a really short time (less than a week) which is a great thing. The quality of this dvd is excellent, multiple camera positions, slowed down parts,
where it's necessary. The correct moves are explained, the errornous ones are showed, so it's good to see the common problems from outside. The invitation/parry part could be a little bit more detailed, because as a beginner, i feel doing a correct parry is one of the hardest thing. However, after i bought various dvd's in the theme of modern olympic fencing, i would rate this dvd the best for self-education purposes.
