Misery makes great music

Music for a New Society is, like it or not, Cale's masterpiece. Cale himself doesn't like it, having admitted to being in a bad place when recorded. But misery made for great music, an emotional punch of an album that in terms of the arrangements is the only time he did for his own music what he frequently did as a producer for others, notably Nico. The remaster of a long out of print classic is therefore worth 5 stars on its own. The reworked arrangements in M:Fans don't quite match up, not least in terms of having a certain plodding feel that has also hampered a number of his recent releases. It's great that Cale is a happy and productive musician in his 70s, but the back catalogue is great. Can we have Honi Soit remastered next?

Much loved so far by my 9 and 7 year old kids, and enough interest for the adults to join in as well.

I couldn't get the first one sent to work without multiple air bubbles, but was sent a replacement with no fuss, and that worked perfectly.

Some parts of this book are great, in particular the sections on Mark Lazarus and Leyton Orient. Other parts seem to sag slightly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great biography, 20 Feb. 2014

Ryszard Kapuscinski was a great writer. He may have been a great journalist, and almost certainly wasn't a great man, at the very least in his dealings with his communist regimes. This beautifully written book lays out the evidence in such a way as to leave you wanting more. On the one hand, how much of his most most famous books was scarred by inaccuracies? Some are pointed out, but does that render his books as fiction? On the other hand, how much was down to the way he interacted locally, at ground level, we see a good example, but want to know more. The book sets you thinking about the nature of journalism and writing, and also about how to be successful under a repressive regime. It is a fitting legacy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average, 28 Dec. 2013
It's catchy enough at times, but massively overhyped, there's no really standout track, two or three weaker tracks, and the whole thing just doesn't really deliver the cohesion that a great album should have.

The webcam works ok and provides decent pictures and sound on skype and google talk. It doesn't seem to work with the software that is provided with it though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but annoying, 16 Jun. 2012
This phone has some great plus points, the power, the processor, the screen, the start up time is great, the memory, the Micro SD card slot. It's a pleasure once you get it set up. Which unfortunately takes a while. The stock messaging app and keyboard are pathetic and need changing to usable software. Other software is basic at best, for example the browser is hardly cutting edge. The extras seem to add nothing.

But get it set up and it works fine. The only thing then, and time will tell, is that the home button seems fragile and liable to break.

This could have been a great phone. It isn't, but still one of the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars What do you do when reviews are 1 or 5 stars?, 29 Jan. 2012
It was with trepidation that I took this item to Switzerland as some feedback suggested it wouldn't work and those who posted otherwise were not telling the truth. All I can say is they worked for me. And I've received no incentives to say so.
