5.0 out of 5 stars Realism, 8 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love this drama. My life was like the main character, so realistic. She always looks a mess, always tired, no time to go to the loo, let alone do hair and make-up.
She is typical of the hardworking front line female officers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trip Back in Time, 8 May 2016
This review is from: Cop Town (Paperback)
I joined the police in the late 1970''s. As a female I can assure you that it was a racist and sexist organisation, a sort of Men's Club. Female and BAME officers had a harder time than the white men.
Having said that it was a reflection of society at that time.
Fortunately, things have changed a lot since then and although society remains somewhat sexist and racist there is no room for such bigotry in the police service now. Such people would not last five minutes. The police is a carefully scrutinised and regulated service.
So for me this book was a feast. A little over done in some parts but it had a lot of truth in it too. I loved Chapter 23, the conversation with the main characters parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not sure whather to believe it but an interesting book, 24 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If this is a work of fiction it is very well written. It reads well and sounds true. I find the idea that aliens do not exist harder to believe than their not existing. If they do exist and visit this planet I can understand why certain interested parties would want to keep it secret. In any case it is a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A leon in stupidity, 24 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a wonderful book. A tory of great suffering but also of triumph. The suffering of a young woman at the hands of her parents stupidity. They had money, not much, but enough for cigarettes, booze and cinema tickets. They were blind to the suffering of their daughter in abject poverty. I am sure this scenario is still being played out in many other families.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book and pass it on for others to read and share., 24 Feb. 2014
This truly nightmarish world has been allowed to continue for more than 50 years. Why? How many people are dying there today? How many will die there tomorrow? If everyone reads this book maybe we can then resolve to make the nightmare stop. North Korea has only one friend, no not Rodman. China. China is the key to unravelling this puzzle. The UN has published its report, but the UN has no power. We make the world what it is. Not God, not Governments. If we all stop buying Chinese goods in protest China will be forced to listen and help NK change. North Korea is one giant prison. The guards in the camps are also victims. A lifetime of indoctrination has turned them insto monsters.
We make the world what it is, we need to make this nightmare stop.

Buy this book. Buy a copy for your friends. The book is brilliant. Also, whoever Ed Macy is he deserves to become a multimillionaire. Firstly, for what he and his colleagues did but also for his generosity in sharing his memories.
