5.0 out of 5 stars 4th Album Best From Mest, 20 Jun. 2003
This review is from: Mest (Audio CD)
After 2001's Destination Unknown it would have been a huge challenge for Mest to write a better album but...
1. Until I Met You - Lots of 'ah ah ahs' in the beginning. It's a good opener though. Not to distant from their older stuff. Its still a bit like Goldfinger though, 'Shaking on the outside, because of what I'm feeling inside' Good Lyrics
2. Rooftops - One of the first I heard, it is a real good anthem, great chorus. One of the most catchy and happiest on the album 'Up on the rooftop, listening to punk rock'
3. Jaded (These Years) - if you didn't know, Benji from GC features in this song. Its also the first single, it wouldn't have been my pick, but its more Mest than most of the songs on this album.
4. Night Alone - One of Jere's songs. Heavier than old Mest songs, like most of this album, The guitar parts in this song are amazing.
5. Burning Bridges - One of my favourites, if u have the other album, its a little bit like 'Reason'. Tony's song writing skills have certainly grown. Its quite a sad song this one.
6. Walking On Broken Glass - This is THE best on the album; it's similar too burning bridges. The effects on the vocals are really cool. Just listen to this song it is fantastic.
7. Your Promise - Piano intro: Mest haven't done this before, it quickly picks up, up-tempo song. Jere's voice has changed slightly since the last album. In my opinion he is a better singer than Tony.
8. 2000 Miles - This is another catchy one, Starts a bit like 'Another Day' on the last album, I really like this song..
9. Shell Of Myself - Another song by Jere he has quite a few on this album. His voice is really amazing. I think they are departing from the Goldfinger label they had stuck on them.
10. Lost, Broken, Confused - Not really a stand out track, but still a solid song.
11. Chance of a lifetime - Strings and acoustic guitars, very slow song, different from the rest.
12. Return To Self Loathing - This is another favourite, good guitar parts, its also another Jere song. This and walking on broken glass really sum up Mest's new direction.
13. Paradise - Album closer, starts with a siren. This is very old skool Mest, like Wasting Time album. This song has a very good riff
This is gonna be a great album to remember in the future, Mest have taken a brilliant new direction without distancing themselves too much from their trademark sound. They are gonna be huge this year, take my word for it...and its about time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Cool Punk Rock, 20 Feb. 2003
This review is from: No Limits (Audio CD)
Do you know simple plan? well if you do, Chuck, Pierre and Dave used to be in this band. Pierre sang and played bass and Chuck played Drums...dave joined when pierre left. I really like this album, aside from the fact that members of my favourite band used to be in it, its is a good Punk Rock cd. Songs such as 'Wide Open' and 'My Dream and I' Really stand out. If you like stuff such as Blink's old stuff, New Found Glory and Mest you should have this cd in your collection

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic release from Drive Thru Records, 20 Feb. 2003
Drive Thru Records has to be my favourite label, with such bands as New Found Glory, Finch, The Starting Line and Allister to name a few. Last year in Febuary this band suffered a serious car crash and they are lucky to be alive, if they wernt this brilliant album would not have been released. The Movie life are back with their First major LP and its amzing. These guys are kinda a mix of new found glory and finch. There is some screaming on the album but it is mainly heart felt pop punk. Best song is 'Kelly Song' the opening line of it is a killer 'Kelly cries, the makeup runs from her eyes she feels untrue' Get this album it will not let you down. These guys are gonna be big. Buy if you like any drive thru records band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Plan : Simply Amzing, 20 Feb. 2003
This band is simple amazing i got into them about a year ago and saw them support bowling for soup last week. This is definitly the best of all the New Pop Punk style bands. Some of the tracks such as 'When I'm With You' and 'Addicted' are about lost love and wanting someone that dosn't want you back. Other track such as 'God Must Hate Me' 'I'm Just A Kid' and 'Perfect' are about how hard it is too be a teenager, this album has everything that anyone can relate too. The best song overall has to be Addicted it's the bands third single from this album. Buy this is you like Good Charlotte, Blink and New Found Glory. Mark Hoppus and Joel Madden make guest appearences on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Pop Punk..., 10 Dec. 2002
This review is from: Lost Warthog Tapes (Audio CD)
Some punk bands are not very good at all, whereas some are outstanding...good charlotte, mest...new found glory , to name a few and wakefeild are just as good as the bands i mentioned. I was reluctant to buy after listning to ALOT of new wave pop punk and being disapointed, but this cd is not one of those. Wakefeild can produce brilliant songs such as 'Girls Rock Boys' and 'Reason'. This should be in every pop punkers cd collection. give them a try, you wont be disapointed ;)
Buy this if you like The Starting Line, Mest and MxPx

5.0 out of 5 stars Finch are just brilliant buy the cd, 30 Oct. 2002
This review is from: Falling into Place (Audio CD)
Finch are kind of hard to decribe what music it is...Its kindof like glassjaw, which some jimmy eat world and taking back sunday mixed in. The singer, Nate, is a briliant singer and he screams alot to (y'now like slipknot) which is really cool. The best track is what it is to burn and Latters to you. Id buy this if you like Jimmy Eat World, Glass jaw and Blink 182

5.0 out of 5 stars I heard the entire album on drive thru records.com...., 13 July 2002
This review is from: say it like you mean it (Audio CD)
WOW what a band. I Must say it is alot like New Found Glory but they are not ripping them off. I think the lead singer is around 18 years old too!
1. Up and Gone - Quite fastly paced song about a girl. Really catchy.
2. Given The Chance - Alot like NFG, similar to the first track but use of guitar effects. Easy to sing to once you know the words.
3. Leaving - This song has been redone, it was on the EP. It sounds fantastic now its been redone, its a slighty sadder song than the others.
4. The Best Of Me - Starts of slow and really picks up to the middle, this band are grat at using guitars for solos.
5. A Good Nights Sleep - Another slower beginning with just bass and guitar. Drums fade in...and we have another fastly paced song. The singer has great vocals which are displayed here.
6. Almost There - Song comes straight in in full, the songs do sound quite similar, but it is the same band, i think this is one of my favourites, very NFG like again.
7. Cheek To Cheek - Drum solo to start of with, bass and guitar come in...its a slow song to start of with again which leads to more guitar solos, i think its got a sadder feel to it again.
8. Hello Houston - Very Blink 182 at the beginning which develops into their own sound again, this is a brilliant song and id buy the cd just for this one.
9. Decisions Decisions - Quite alot like the others, another really good song.
10, Saddest Girl Story - Another one redone from the EP, it shows how the band have grown, this reminds me of the NGF 'All About the firls' cd. Still very punk rock song.
11. Left Coast Envy - I heard this one some time back and i love it. I think this one is different from the others, it defines their own sound. It slso been redone since i last heard it, very catchy chorus.
12. The Drama Summer - First use of an acoustic guitar solo on the album, with the singers vocals going in full still. 'Cross Your Fingers' He Sings...
13. This Ride - Another fastly paced song, quite NFG but mixing their own sound in, Liek they shout on it in the middle.
All In All a 5/5 album i cant wait til it comes out. If u like this check out bands 'Mest' 'Good Charlotte' and 'Finch'

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Nickelback you'll love Course of Nature, 24 Jun. 2002
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
In the music industry you will always get bands that are called 'rip-off' bands eg. Hoobastank to Incubus, Mest to Goldfinger, NFG to Blink. Their albums usually turn out well and Superkala is no different. This CD is FANTASTIC.
The best track is 'Caught in the sun' its slow to start of with and the singers vocals are really powerful. The song picks up in the chrous. 'Better Part of Me' is more up tempo and is brilliant. I would really compare them to nickelback with a tiny bit of incubus. try them out you will not be disapointed

5.0 out of 5 stars The 5th CD being releaed by this fantastic group, 2 Jun. 2002
This review is from: Sticks & Stones (Audio CD)
At last they are coming back with a fantastic follow up. I love new found glory.
01. Understatement - Heavier than most other NFG stuff but its definitely still punk. Great chorus.
02. My Friends Over You - You've all heard it, you all love it this is the only song i think on the album that sounds like old nfg stuff.
03. Sonny - One of the best on the album, its quite sad, the guitar riff rules.
04. Something I Call Personality - The BEST on the album i must say. Great title great song. It a bit like better off dead on the old album. Very catchy chorus
05. Head on collision Cool lead guitar by Chad, again heavier than other nfg stuff, another Killer on the album, i could imagine blink doing this one.
06. It's been a summer - really heavy guitar riff. Its all in the title its a great song. Typical NFG, its brilliant. A lot like my friends over you.
07. Forget my name - it doesn't sound like Jordan singing at the start, im not sure. Second best on the album, really bouncy a bit sad aswell.
08. Never give up - Cyrus is a brilliant drummer and it is displayed well here. The bass stands out too, another catchy chorus.
09. The great Houdini - I LOVE this one its probably another best one joint with number 04. I hope they release this one after my friends over you. Check this one out.
10. Singled out - sounds like a pop song at the start. Then goes heavier. Its one of the fastest on the album, most of the songs on this album are about girls leaving them and heres another.
11. Bleated - Alot like 'boy crazy' and 'black and blue' off the older album. This one doesn't really stand out though.
This is a brilliant album 'Something i call personality' and 'the great Houdini' are the best. BUY IT!! Check out bands called 'Mest' And 'Good Charlotte' too.
