This is a great album, great songs, laidback country rock, sometimes funky, something like the Band, real organic feel to it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good songs, sad production, 7 Oct. 2008
This review is from: Phillips 66 (Audio CD)
Like Always, these songs by John Phillips, are made of strong melodies and personal, original lyrics. And they all deserve better than the artistic level they reach on this cd. I am sorry to say that an uninspired, dull production turns most of these songs into the mediocre. The California Dreamin you get here, is a bad dream, with a kitschy muted trumpet and Mexican choir. I wonder what songs like Slow Starter would have been like with the artistic nerve and musicality of John The Wolfking. And how would Whiskey, Wine and Champagne been like on Pay Pack Follow? I hate the guitar sound, the backing vocals, the pace of the songs and the whistling organ on Phillips 66. I give it three stars for what it could have been, and I recommend it for fans only.

4.0 out of 5 stars John Jagger, or Mick Phillips?, 1 Oct. 2008
This review is from: Pay Pack & Follow (Audio CD)
This is a great album, and Mr Blue, is a rock n roll gem. The background vocals and the guitar-riffs gives a Rolling Stones feel to the song that is typical for much of the album. The personality of John Phillips' songs, with his personal, original lyrics and catchy melodies, never gets lost in the Stones influence.
