A Child is Born: A Natural Guide to Pregnancy,Birth and Early Childhood (Bringing Spirit to Life)
A Child is Born: A Natural Guide to Pregnancy,Birth and Early Childhood (Bringing Spirit to Life)
by Wilhelm Zur Linden
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Outdated, potentially dangerous, 20 Feb. 2017
Outdated, and some potentially dangerous advice. The overall tone and ethos of this book is one of kindness and nurturing, but much of the advice relating to breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and weaning is out of date, and ethically - let alone medically - questionable. In line with anthroposophical views, it advocates exclusive breastfeeding for only five months (the NHS and WHO advise 6 months minimum) with total weaning from the breast at 9 months (WHO advises breastfeeding with appropriate complimentary foods to at least 2 years). Confusingly, one section of the book suggests giving the baby herb teas and vegetable juices alongside breastmilk from 8 weeks! This ignores current guidelines and extensive research into the 'virgin gut'. It also suggests feeding on a four hourly schedule, which goes against current advice to breastfeed on demand, and can lead to insufficient milk supply.
The bottle feeding advice is, frankly, dangerous. it suggests that if a baby cannot (for whatever reason) be breastfed, it should be fed a liquid 'gruel' of various grains. Not only does this contravene advice that grains should not be introduced until at least 6 months, it puts the baby at risk of malnutrition and deficiency in numerous vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, and other growth factors at least present in commercial formula (even if not particularly bio-available).
Other advice, such as needing to cleanse the nipples with water before, and lemon juice after, every feed, is simply incorrect.
I would not recommend following much of the advice in this book. It provides an interesting read to those already in the know about infant care and feeding (i.e. those with children already), but is definitely not recommended for those new to parenting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weird print but does the job, 1 Nov. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nice little neck warmer. Made of cotton jersey fabric, very basic, raw edges, but does the job and can't complain for the price (£1+69p post). Fits 3 yr old fine. Took a while to arrive via ChinaPost.
Most puzzling thing is the printed writing - looks like 'sloppy, sloppin, orean' randomly printed along with the star pattern all over.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as expected, 25 Dec. 2015

Reasonable quality case, but very poor print quality. Colours much duller than photo and much more blurry around the edges.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 6 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not nearly as well made as they look in the photo. The elastic around the back of the heel is too loose to hold the shoes on, and the train design is a poor imitation of the photo. The leather of the motif is shoddily cut and very wonkily stitched. The train wheels are one long green bubble stitched around the edge instead of cut and stitched individually, and one steam cloud is missing from one shoe. There are far better quality soft leather shoes for similar prices to be found on Amazon. I'll be returning these.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that great..., 18 Jun. 2014
Unconvinced by this. Perhaps ok for the more passive baby - aged 6.5 months mine was turning this upside down and pulling the removable rim off! Claims to be weighted for stability, but that didn't stop my baby from sweeping it onto the floor regularly. Also much smaller than expected, it's about 15cm diameter max. My baby thinks it's a great drum when upside down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect little spoons, 18 Jun. 2014
Lovely wooden spoons for baby. Broad and shallow bowl makes it easier for your baby to get food off them before they've got the hang of lowering their upper lip to meet the spoon. We're doing baby led weaning so don't use them that often, but great for yoghurt/porridge etc, and great for baby to feed himself too. Much nicer than all the plastic spoons out there!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very big, 18 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Unfortunately too big both in length and width to fit in Totsbots Easyfits, so had to return. Felt soft and quite thick, so if the nappies you use are bigger (don't think they'd have been small enough to fit in size 2 Bamboozles either) they'd probably be quite good.
Easypeasy Bamboo Boosters are better value and fit perfectly, so bought those instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Safe for babies and breastfeeding mums, 18 Jun. 2014
Amazing stuff - wish I'd found it years ago. Had a really bad cold and sinusitis recently, but can't take any decongestants (orally or nasal sprays) because I'm breastfeeding. This was an absolute lifesaver. Doesn't give that artificially clear nose feeling, but loosens mucus enough so you can more or less breathe. Also safe to use in tiny babies, which is very useful before a feed if they can't breathe through their nose, and to clear their nose at night.
I always trust Weleda products to be safe and entirely natural, and Rhinodoron is no different - almost all aloe vera. Highly recommended for all the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just right, 18 Jun. 2014

Great nappy boosters - fit perfectly into Totsbots Easyfits. Looked slightly big when they arrived, but shrunk enough after the first wash. They do soften up and become much more absorbent with subsequent washes too. Not quite as thick as I expected (I think they're only two layers of fabric) but seem to do the job without adding much bulk at all to the nappy. Would definitely recommend and buy again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good nappy sacks, 23 Dec. 2013

These are much smaller than the Earth Friendly Baby ones, but still do the job. Also not as strong and the handles have torn on some. We usually manage to fit 4 or 5 size 3 nappies into one bag - much more eco friendly than one nappy to one bag. Compact roll, so perfect size for changing bag.
