This short story is so powerful. Gilman tells the story of a woman confined in a room due to her 'hysteria'. The book deals with ideas of mental illness, femininity and identity. Everyone should read this!

This review is from: English Eccentrics (Paperback)
Edith Sitwell was a legend of a woman. This is her account of several eccentric she encounter in her life, but perhaps she is the most eccentric of them all. Edith was quirky and fabulous, and this book is a celebration of people from all walks of life. A lovely book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, moving, heartbreaking, 22 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a beautifully crafted book. It tells the story of Stoner, a young farm boy who eventually goes to university and lives life as a lecturer. His life is by no means a walk in the park and his story is undoubtedly sad and heartwrenching. But Williams really captures human nature and character and this is a completely compelling and truthful depiction of a one man's life. One of my all time favourite books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, 22 Feb. 2014
This review is from: Metals (MP3 Download)
Love all the songs on this album, and it's best listened to all in one go. Like all of Feist's music there a so many layers and intricacies to her songs and I always notice something new whenever I hear them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and beautifully written, 22 Feb. 2014
This review is from: On Chesil Beach (Paperback)
On Chesil Beach tells the story of a young, newly married couple on their wedding night. Although it's a short story, McEwan beautifully captures their relationship, how they connect and how they completely misread each other. Like Atonement, the ending is devastating and the story stays with you long after reading. This is a moving and evocative book which is extremely well written and a joy to read. If you like Atonement, you'll love this too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous book, 25 Aug. 2011
I'm really pleased I bought this book. The Diaghilev exhibition at the V&A was one of my favorites and now I can look at all the fantastic costumes again! Not only are there some exquisitely detailed photos and illustrations but also a lot of information about Diaghilev's life and all the aspects of his ballet company, from dance, music, art and fashion. A great accompaniment to the exhibition - if only 'The Cult of Beauty' would come back in stock...
