4.0 out of 5 stars How it all began..., 4 July 2015
Looking back at the first season of the show can be slightly awkward when considering just how much the characters and their positions in this richly-drawn world have changed. Some have fallen and some have soared but suffice it to say, this is an amazingly strong start to the biggest show on the planet. It may take a few episodes before you become invested in the show but, it should grip you with it's brutal but strongly emotional storylines.

This season isn't flawless however as there is far too much gratuitous sex and nudity, which although is an important part of this world and the story being told, it was used far too awkwardly and without any narriative purpose, instead just as awkward exposition (though it improves in later seasons).

Ultimately this is worth buying not just for the great season of television held within but, for the bountiful extras and the lush presentation lf the boxset. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fighting the good fight, 22 Mar. 2015
Due to network interference, the show was forced to feature more standalone episodes as opposed to the brilliant, complex and more intricate season arcs of previous seasons. As a result, the first half of the season is a lot weaker than we were used to (though there are a couple of strong episodes) and therefore it can be quite difficult to sit through. The return of Spike was annoying for quite sometime because his character had been given a magnificent ending in the last episode of BTVS coupled with some seriously awesome final words;so seeing him brought back, especially so soon almost ruined that exit for me however, slowly but surely he became more bearable again and he proved a helpful addition to the team.

The high quality of the show returned with a vengeance in the 100th episode 'You're welcome' with the return of a certain character who's name rhymes with Spordelia (BTVS season 3 reference). Her return helped the gang remember who they were and what they stood for and similarly did the same thing for the show. From then onwards we had the most consistently brilliant run of high-quality episodes in the show's five year history.

The one thing that confuses me though is just how did they manage to return to such a highly-serialized format without network bosses noticing?- then again they managaed to mask each episode with a standalone plot, so i guess that outwitted them (another example of how network bosses can be incredibly stupid).

Anyway, from the painful death of the wonderful Fred to the shocking revelations of the cause, there was non-stop drama and it was hard not to love every second of it; all of which culminated in the show's final episode which isn't just one of the show's best episodes (S2xE08- 'Darla' is the very best episode of the show) but one of the best final episode's of a T.V show that i have ever seen.

The show ended fighting the good fight.

Not a bad way to go out.

A solid sequel which benefits greatly from the return of Kevin Williamson as writer. Already you notice the return of "quality" to the franchise and although it doesn't quite reach the heights of the first two movies, it cleverly decides not to copy them and try something slightly different with the motive of the killer very "modern". The opening scene and final act are excellent and stand proudly with the best sequences this franchise has put out. Highly reccommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars There's something in the ice..., 1 Dec. 2014

A solid, good-looking serial from the well-loved "monster season" of Doctor Who. It benefits greatly from a well-written script, good direction, a strong supporting catt and the introduction of the iconic Ice Warriors. As always the icing on the cake are the main cast- especially the brilliant Patrick Troughton. However, as with many 6 parters, this one may be one episode too long, however you only really notice upon reflection. Still highly reccommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars The film that actually made me luck Wolverine, 20 April 2014
This review is from: The Wolverine [DVD] (DVD)
The thing that makes this film quite different to other superhero films, is the fact that it is very character-based and the plot comes second. This allows an insight into just who Wolverine is and the constant struggle that rages in his mind. The action sequences which whilst not frequent, they definitely are thrilling when used. The only thing which this film falls down in is the weak characterisation of viper. Also make sure you stay through the credits for a very awesome scene which will have you very excited for 'days of future past'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good, 16 April 2014
This review is from: Monsters University [DVD] (DVD)
I didn't have high expectations for this film, mainly because I wasn't a fan of the first film (although some parts were good such as the heart-wrenching moment when Boo and sully were separated, I just thought it was a bit dull- however nobody else seems to think so) and it seemed unnecessary. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that this movie has an infectious warmth about it and the third act of the film played out unexpectedly. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why All the Hate?, 16 April 2014
This review is from: Iron Man 3 [DVD] (DVD)
I've read a lot of reviews which slated this movie for it's disregard for the source material. But this is supposed to be an adaptation and shouldn't completely copy the comics as this would make the film predictable as you'd know how everything was going to end. So the creative team behind this brave film decided to take a risk and in my opinion it worked as it completely defied my expectations and genuinely surprised me. I didn't feel cheated and it was just hilarious to watch. This twist also wasn't a detriment to the overall plot as we still got a very epic ending and has left me in doubt as to whether we'll see more of Iron Man (in a good way).

Doctor Who - Series 5, Volume 4 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Matt Smith
Price: £6.32

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 13 April 2014
The main attraction of this DVD is the epic 2-part finale that is surely the best of the Matt Smith era and of all of Moffat's episodes. Also included is 'the lodger' which is harmless fun and allows us to see just how much of an 'Alien' the doctor is by putting him in an ordinary suburban setting. Highly Recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, 8 April 2014
Not a weak link in this set. From the wonderfully imaginative and clever 'Silence in the library/Forest of the era's, which introduced a very important character in an unusual way to the masterpiece that is 'Midnight'- an episode that will linger in your mind long after watching it. Highly Recommended.
