Imagine if Zero 7 were in love with House and disco and wanted to share that love with the world. Still doesn't do this album justice. Little dance-floor symphonies.

My first GPS training watch. Was worried about: finding GPS lock (took 10 secs the first time, now only 5 secs even indoors), setting up with Apple computer (really simple setup, Tomtom site is clear and easy to use), quality of recorded info (tons of data for everything you could need in both list, graphic, and map form). I have the model with the HR monitor strap which worked instantly and accurately.
It does tons more than I've mentioned here but so far it has done all I need really quickly, clearly and accurately. I'm a 'returning begginer' in terms of running, training for my first 10k in years and this watch has really enthused me again. So far, so very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 80's may have been shiny, optimistic and decadent ..., 25 April 2015
The 80's may have been shiny, optimistic and decadent for a handful of avaricious wide-boys (and girls) but to many it was just as dark, claustrophobic and paranoid as any decade before or since. Spector get this. (Great video on YouTube too).

Felt I must review this song as nobody else has. Such a beautiful song. Passionate without being bombastic. A really clever mix of power pop and post punk. I expect great things of this band if this is their template.

For the love of God don't buy this from here!!!!!! It's £700 everywhere else, and for that price it's a fantastic player.

This guy obviously knows what he's talking about. In fact he knows so much you may think he's talking about another piece of software if you're used to the usual Elements 'How to' books. My only grumble, and the reason for the missing 5th star, is that like a lot of really clever people he is no teacher.

Why the 4 stars then? (this is after all supposed to be a help manual of sorts). I give this book nearly top marks because if you can excavate the tips buried in the exercises this book contains you will find that not only do they really work, but that they make the way most manuals show you how to work seem at best clumsy.

My advise, and the method I used to find a way into this somewhat baffling book, is to find a picture of your own with a similar problem/tonal spread/subject to the ones used in the book, and plough your way through the exercises with it. You will initially feel like you're being wholly patronized, but pretty soon the results speak for themselves.

If you don't really care why things work, just that they do, this won't be a problem. This book will take you to the next level of Elements performance, and even make you realise that in all but the most extreme cases you really don't need full Photoshop, but the journey could have been much more pleasant.

Long story but due to complicated circumstances have been listening to music mainly from MP3 for 2 years, and have just upgraded my system so I can once more listen to my albums direct from CD. Coupled with this the player I've bought (Marantz Pearl Lite) plays SACD and this is the first disc in that format I've ever bought or heard. This leads me to a number of conclusions:

1. MP3 is atrocious quality and really fit only for headphones on the move.
2. Whining record companies need to stop bemoaning falling sales and promote CD as the superior format. If your hi-fi is even half decent the difference isn't just a matter of taste, it's glaringly obvious. MP3 is flat, over compressed, and in terms of reproducing what the artist intended, a huge step backwards.
3. Having been blown away by this SACD of an album I've loved for years I'm really sad to see that a quick search on Amazon seems to point to the fact that the format seems to be dying on it's skinny digital a**e.

Don't think there's much point telling you how good this album is. One of those times when a genius/lunatic manages to use sound and words to take you somewhere nobody even dreamt existed before. Been nothing like it before or since.

So in summary:
-if you've never heard The Pixies try this, Bossanova, or even Trompe le Monde. There's no accounting for taste but I can promise you won't feel bored, cheated or patronized.
-MP3 is fine for a portable format but if you love music do yourself a favour and buy the CD (they've never been cheaper!).
-Record companies get off your self pitying a****s and promote the valuable product you have.
-Shame I've discovered SACD just as it goes to join Betamax!

Firstly may I say how much I value what Tom Waits does now. I'm glad he goes where he pleases, glad that someone with such a peculiar, obtuse and fascinating sound in his head follows it without regard for the gloss and shimmer of what passes for taste, glad above all else that in todays music industry some other genius lets him share this with us. But I love these albums so much. I have no idea if the place and time he evokes with such sad eyed beauty on each of these songs ever really existed anywhere else but in his head. All I can say is that these albums will take you around some home town, and introduce you to people and places that feel alive, and what's more, alive with sensations that whisper heartbreaking truths about your own home town.
It's sadly and ironically true that in trying to write about this body of work I'm failing to do Mr Waits justice. Much of it's power lies in the economy of the words used so it may be time to sign off. There is a little hero inside all the big bruised hearts this world rolls over, and within this incredible body of work lay a million little pictures of just that.

Agree wholeheartedly with all the positive reviews so far. An album that fascinates initially, unveils itself slowly and surprisingly, then while you're still busy smiling helplessly at the invention of it all, reveals that it's become the tune in your head for all occasions.

As a random aside for anyone who's interested, i have found this to be an excellent album for running to. This and Interpol's 'Our Love To Admire' back to back, 10k of leafy Autumn roads, job's a good 'un.
