2.0 out of 5 stars two stars for three stars, 26 Mar. 2006
This review is from: Three (Audio CD)
i do appreciate sugababes attitude and genuine love of music. They've got style, good voices, and evident writing skills. But here, the songs themselves are at fault. The whole thing has been vulgarized: the sound has become far too accessible to really heat up things. On one touch, the hooks were amazing, the voices impressively mature and the sound sparkling, fresh with that little dirty thing that makes for credibility. Angels with dirty faces simply had killer singles and a mature, intelligent sound. Three is just dull.
We begin to see the limitations of Mutya and Keisha's voices: don't take it the wrong way: they are amazing singers with gorgeous voices full of soul. But i think Heidi has a far more powerful and interesting voice: i think she is partly the reason why they happen to make a fourth album today. Hole in the head is fun but it lacks originality. songs like million different ways sound like a desperate attempt at originality: the result is pointless really. in the middle feels like the chorus was introduced because it had to be introduced. too lost in you is incredibly boring. the good tracks? the ones i don't have in my french version: twisted and buster. i also like maya: mastered and focused originality, and moving by the way.
taller in more ways is much more interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice lp from a very talented and unconventional black woman, 4 Feb. 2004
This review is from: Kelis - Tasty (Audio CD)
There's something about this album that surprises me everytime i listen to it: though its production comes close to minimalism, its richness is impressive.Your attention is grabbed from beginning to end: let's take "in public": the beat is simple and there are few other noises here and there. However this song is,like the rest of the album, lush and...man,so damn good! Kelis and her producers discovered the secret formula of making a lot with a little.Of course that doesn't exclude the fact that they worked a lot to make this lp.You feel that this is a refined album, that they poured their knowledge and genuine talent into this damn cool record.
"Trick me" and "keep it down" are 2 attempts at rock r'n'b style, done with style."Milkshake" is a lot of fun."In public" with its sexy undertone is my personal favourite."Flashback" comes from "wanderland" her previous release, and is not great, not bad. There was no need to include it."Protect my heart" is a gorgeous, unpretentious little song."Glow" shines in all its glory, with its laid-back beat and more than fine little melody. My 2nd favourite."Millionaire" is fast and features a good vocal performance.Sugar honey iced tea is sooooo fresh and simple, with a discreet horn part.rolling through the hood is...simple.It's just kelis and a fine beat, nothing more.stick up is minimalist and has a strange feel to it.Who said that was a bad thing? Marathon is the same, with a nice string part and its ending is quite good.Oops! i forgot "attention"!Don't think it's because i don't like it! This song is like a cool breeze:cool music, great voice and fine lyrics.
That's about it! You,the r'n'b fan,yes you! You shall buy tasty for it contributes to the reviving of real r'n'b!I'm tellin' ya!
ps: to me real r'n'b is innovative and just plain fun!that's what it's about.
