3.0 out of 5 stars good, but not that good, 31 Oct. 2002
This review is from: Hope (Audio CD)
i did enjoy this album, but it was a little too 'all been done before' for my liking. the lead singer voice is good, the lyrics are good, the production and instruments are good, but nothing is exceptional. if u are considering buying this album, i would recommend trying purple through the fishtank first.

4.0 out of 5 stars this is a great 'i dont no what 2 listen 2' cd, 30 Oct. 2002
This review is from: Funky Divas 2 (Audio CD)
one of my fave compilation albums. it has a great range of genre and has quite a few disco and r'n'b classics. it has a very mid-90s feel and is v uplifting without being over senitmental or too dancy. buy it if 90s dance, soul, swing and r'n'b are your thing! love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, 1 Sept. 2002
This review is from: Sociology for A2 (Paperback)
A useful resource to accompany A2 students in their studies. Sometimes it is a pitched a little too low though always clear and easy to understand, on the whole this book certainly worth buying if you are doing A level sociology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oneof the best hip hop soul ballads of all time, 1 Sept. 2002
This review is from: Lauryn Hill - Ex-Factor (Audio CD)
This has got to be one of my favourite songs. Lauryn Hill's sensitive, insightful and original lyrics mixed with her emotive voice and perfect production form a song that once heard you can never forget.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good mainstrem rap single, 1 Sept. 2002
This review is from: Ghetto Supastar (Audio CD)
Rap meets r'n'b in this toe tapping collaboration between sweet voiced Mya and rap funkster Pras and ODB. A somewhat typical rap song with a catchy female vocal chorus, but still a great single to sit back and hang out to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 1 Sept. 2002
This review is from: Hits (Audio CD)
Having never really heard much of Joni's music before I went out on a limb and gave this CD a go and have not regretted it. This album shows her amazing songwriting ability in a number of different genres, capturing the attitude of the 1960s perfectly using a voice that is soft but full of attitude and an acoustic guitar. The songs are raw and relatively underproduced which highlights the atmospheric lyrics and singing. She swings with some aplomb between folk music (Urge for Going), soft rock (Raised on robbery), pop (You turn me on), easy listening (Both sides now)and creates her own emotional genre (Chinese Cafe, Come in from the cold). All her classics are on this album from Woodstock to Big Yellow Taxi and some other songs that I bet you didn't know she wrote. Takes a couple of listens to get into but once you do you'll never look back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin., 1 Sept. 2002
Take 15 extremely talented Irish folk musicians and twelve soul classics and this is what you get. Soul meets Irish music with a modern twist and it is very good. A wide variety of songs played, sung and produced excellently. I have never been a fan of Irish folk music but this can be enjoyed by all those with an eclectic taste in music. My favourite tracks include the touching and atmospheric Warm and Tender Love (as seen on TOTP2 and reminiscent of some of Eva Cassidy's folk music), the toe tapping classic Get ready and the soulful rendition of Inner City Blues.
