How to Win X Factor
How to Win X Factor
by Keeley Bolger
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.95

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly amusing, 17 Sept. 2009
This review is from: How to Win X Factor (Paperback)
Arguably more entertaining than the current X Factor itself, this beezer book is an affectionate look at the TV phenomenon. Witty but not sneering, informative but never dull, this is a perfect present for anyone fond of guilty poptastic pleasures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Hot, 29 Oct. 2007
As riveting as The Dirt and entertaining as Tommyland, this is a superb addition to the Motley Crue library. Sixx is a merchant but he knows it, and the text is interspersed with both ego-puncturing contributions from his colleagues and eye-popping illustrations. Exactly what Anthony Keidis' turgid autobiography should have been but wasn't, The Heroin Diaries is very highly recommended. Vince next, please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless, 16 Oct. 2007
On the surface Abra could be one of a thousand post-Tori hopefuls. But dig deeper - and past the misleadingly AORish "I Do" - and you'll find brilliant songwriting with quirky production (the joyful "Shining Star", for example, sounds like the Cocteau Twins' rockier moments). Best is "Family Affair", the most heartbreaking song since - sorry - Tori's "Playboy Mommy". The accompanying DVD is mildly diverting although the promised commentary for "Family Affair" ain't on mine...

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't panic!, 18 Jun. 2007
By Perry's own admission, Porno For Pyros weren't as good as Jane's Addiction. But now he's made an album glorious enough to bear comparisons with the mothership. In contrast to the depressingly dull Panic Channel album by Navarro et al, Ultra Payloaded is a kaleidoscopic jewel. Though there are token hard rockers, the album it most resembles is Black Grape's splendid It's Great When You're Straight, Yeah: soulful, surprising, danceable and - on the sweeping Awesome - moving. Overall, it's much more fun than the last Jane's album - and, on the Flea/Frusciante-featuring Hard Life Easy, beats anything from Stadium Arcadium. Don't let this one pass you by.
