4.0 out of 5 stars Robust and compact sound recorder, 16 Oct. 2017
Have three of these and they have proven to be robust and well made devices. The on board microphones are pretty good (for ADR or podcasting) and the sound processor is solid. However, if you are using XLR mics then you must use it in mono mode as you will get so much hiss that your recordings will be unusable. The batteries last an absolute age as well. Used the DR-60 for a while and have found the DR-40 to be much more reliable. Recommended.

This stuff is just amazing - it can literally fix anything and I have fixed broken microphones...freezer drawers...toys and games. It really is waterproof and once dried I have found that it doesn't leave any residue either (colour or stains).

First things first - this is a massive book, and one wonders if the author is taking the mickey with the title because there is nothing brief about this. Also, the book is predominantly written in local, Jamaican dialect and is quite hard work to get used to - but it is worth sticking with in all it's gritty glory...and it is gritty but I didn't mind that and found that it made the characters come alive. If there is one thing that this book excels at it is that the characters really do jump off the page.

The problem with the book is that it is just too long and it feels like it would be a fantastic novel if the author had shaved about 300 words off and cut to the meat of the plot - which is great, but it takes so long to get there that any enthusiasm you have for the book has evaporated. There is a lot to like about this book but it felt like a chore rather than a pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new angle on the whole zombie thing, 7 Aug. 2017

Read this absolutely cold. No reviews, no idea what it was about. I loved it. Totally gripping from page one and Carey really does well getting you invested in the characters and explaining a lot of the scientific stuff which I thought was a fascinatingly new slant on the zombie / pandemic genre. I liked that chapters are written from different characters perspectives and it gives one an insight into each person and what they're going through.

I found the plot plausible and the characters never do anything that you think is stupid or unrealistic. Great book.

I bought this to help my son learn guitar (I can play already) to help him learn some licks. The good things about this game are what were good to begin with. Firstly the idea of playing along with your favourite tunes is a great idea...but something seems to have got lost along the way. I would like to just learn the song, simple as. Gimme the notes, gimme the lead or rhythm track and let me go. I don't care if I miss the odd one, just let me have a go. Secondly. the 'band' you play along with (in the jam session thing) is just bad. It doesn't work, they don't seem to coincide with what you play. Also, I just could not sync this game up with the audio. There was always a lag, every time. There were some tracks that I know I can play perfectly on a real guitar and I didn't hit a note. Which is frustrating...because of the lag.

The earlier versions of Rocksmith were way, way better. Better selection of tracks, the lag seemed less and overall it was just a better game. Ugh.

Smells nice and stops your knackers chaffing during long rides. What more can I say? There's a good amount of it so you can be pretty liberal.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's just okay, 9 May 2017

This review is from: Steep (PS4) (Video Game)
There is some good in this game. Collecting gear is great fun and some of the challenges are really good (the expeditions). There is a certain walled nature to the game, with off limits areas being non-obvious, and you don't really know where to go sometimes and that becomes quite frustrating. The control of your boarder can be controller-throwing frustrating at times - when they just want to go one way and not the other and there IS NO GOOD REASON. I snowboard and ski and this is a load of rubbish, really. The flying bits (with wingsuits and paragliding) are kind of off - wingsuits are okay, but hard. The paragliding is just really, really dull.

Graphically the game is pretty good but is let down by some fuzzy textures (I'm playing on a PS4 Pro BTW) and the snow (after you walk or ski in it) looks like...eggs whites?

I just want SSX Tricky remade - original version, no open world, none of that rubbish - tricks and speed runs please. Keep it simple.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some Interesting Insights, 9 May 2017
This is the chronicles of Ben Smith who via a mixture of apathy and self awareness dropped down through the lower leagues and played his career in the lower tiers.

There are some interesting things in this book. The nomadic life of a jobbing pro is well communicated and the sometimes anarchic transfer market at the lower level becomes apparent...but there Ben Smith is a terrible writer and this ends up reading like of shopping list of games he has played in rather than an insight into small clubs, the way they are run or how it effected his life. I thought that Garry Nelson's Left Foot Forward was much more insightful and gave is a peek into the uncertain world of being a pro footballer and anything by Michael Calvin will give you some decent writing to go with it.

Interesting, sometimes, but frequently quite dull.
