5.0 out of 5 stars if only my uncle Albert read this during the war, 25 Sept. 2014
i'll never forget the day my uncle Albert told me he went to Dar es Salaam

During the war he pursued a German battleship down the eastern coast and right the way through the Zanibar Channel. Three days and nights he chased it.

He caught it but worse luck, it sunk him. If only he read this book before then. The strange thing was it also ruined the war for his good friend Sid who later regaled to him the time he spent most of his time in a German prisoner of war camp. He got captured on this little island called Siros in the Dodecanese - just off the Greek coast.

Sid and a few others tried to escape one night. Got right down to the harbour, over-powered some German sailors and nicked their boat, fast bugger it was as well. He'd almost made it to the open sea and this Greek fishing trawler cut right across its path! He got fished out by the Germans and spent the rest of the war in a stalag.

Albert realized one day in Margate over a pint it was Sid who he tripped up but he never told him. If only they both read this book.

RIP uncle Albert

5.0 out of 5 stars classic f1, 30 Sept. 2008
of the 13 season reviews i own this was the first one i bought and is probably the best. some brilliant drivers like prost senna mansell piquet and other world class performers like alesi berger patrese and the debut of one michael schumacher. the detail of the qualifying and races is brilliant while its interesting to see how times have changed. ferrari mclaren benetton and williams competed for wins whilst the likes of jordan tyrrell dallara and even minardi had their moments.

id buy simply because of the quality of racing, the excellent footage and coverage. plus to look back at days when more than 2 teams and 4 drivers could win races.

4.0 out of 5 stars fa cup champs, 19 Aug. 2008
Liverpool manage to stagger through a very short summer and hold on to prize asset Steven gerrard. as the reds try to defend the champions league they also pick up some early season awards with the european super cup and after a sluggish start the Reds campaign hits full momentum.

although they narrowly lose the world club final they make huge improvements in the league and the fa cup run is interesting too not to mention the return of robbie fowler.

dvd shows good footage of the games plus chucks in a few pre season matches and interviews with Rafa and Robbie Fowler.

was nice to see the club improving and this is one of their strongest seasons i nthe premier league although sadly number 19 was still a bridge too far.

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not spectacular, 19 Aug. 2008
jr makes one final attempt to take over ewing oil. contrary to peoples opinions the lack of original characters is a poor point. Jr at war without a cliff barnes just isnt as fun. from the previous film people like Julia, John ross and christopher have vanished.

the film was crying out for cliff barnes although Jr is as ever up to his old tricks trying everything and anything to win back ewing oil. this despite the return of Ray Krebbs (not a spoiler, he is in the opening credits).

As JR tries and tries he must also watch his back, Carter McKay is desperate to get back at him for losing weststar and Jr is also wary of a hitman and witnesses several attempts on his life

this film could easily be part of the series but it simply lacks original characters like pam and cliff. but you just dont know what JR will do next and how will the return of Ray effect all this.

worth watching if your an avid fan, particularly to see the beautiful duo of michelle johnson and tracy scoggins.

larry and his mate bimbo love their pints, larry hasnt worked in ages but insists he doesnt like doing nothing but bimbo is devastated to be let go from his job after 25 years. used to unemployment larry does his best to cheer up his best mate be it on the golf course or in the pub.

bimbos pay off from his job isnt what he wanted but they stagger through christmas and before long bimbo has bought a horrendous van and attempts to go into the chip van industry with larry as his partner. this was set around the time of italia 90 and with ireland in their first world cup bimbo and larry try to cash in and do so big time. as the world cup adventure sees ireland get to the quarter finals larry and bimbo rake in the money but soon their relationship becomes tainted.

larry hates bimbos wife and with bimbo bossing larry around and larry unhappy with this the relationship seems doomed. the purchase of an engine is then rendered useless when they serve one customer at the beach a battered nappy.

a night on the tiles does little to bring the two together again and soon nails are being driven into the coffin of their friendship. bimbo is unhappy that larry twice hired one of his kids without permission. larry also joined a union further annoying bimbo and after a horrendous visit fro mthe health board bimbo is faced with the heart breaking decision. does he bin the van for a life of unemployment or does he leave behind the best mate hes ever had?

although that may sound tragic, in truth the story behind this is just hilarious.

a must!

4.0 out of 5 stars buy if you dont have the finals on dvd already, 13 Nov. 2007
this was purchased for me last summer and i was more than delighted. the 3 discs detail the Fa cup Final and the Champions League Final in both games Stevie performed miracles to drag Liverpool from the pits of despair to cup glory. but you also get an insight into the year Stevie experienced between may 2005 and 2006.

Stevie gives a reasonable insight into this home, his stunning wife Alex also comes across as someone crazy about Stevie and her family but not really bothered about her husband's job (nothing wrong therE). stevie goes on to give a tour of his home including his mates and agent and a stunning part occurs when he reveals an almost shrine like tribute to Liverpools triumph in 2005. he also describes the moments when he nearly left the club aswell as the ups and downs in liverpools season plus his hopes for the future. awards and ads aswell as some autographs thrown in and the birth of his 2nd daughter. a year inthe life of often bores people but this is atleast watchable.

we also get the full 120 mins of Liverpools epic 2005 Champions League final win over Ac Milan when Liverpool came from 3 goals down to win on penalties. This is truly the most dramatic final of all time. No Liverpool supporter will ever tire of having this in their collection. When you watch again for the first time you will suddenly feel all the emotions of that night come back. Watch Stevie as he somehow pulls a rabbit out of the hat and leads by example in an awe inspiring performance.

Although amotionally the Fa Cup final may not have been on a par with the champions league final you still cant help but enjoy it. A truly epic match marked as the Gerrard final where Stevie dragged Liverpool from 2 0 and 3 2 down to win the cup. Scoring two goals Gerrard also set up one and was one of the Liverpool's succesful penalty takers. A true captains performance from one of the best midfielders in the business.

Worth buying if you have not got the cup finals on dvd, the year in the life story is worth watching but not worth crying about if you dont have it

3.0 out of 5 stars wwf enters new era, 31 Oct. 2007
wwf had long since waved bye bye to the warrior/hogan/flair/savage days so now bret hart rules the roost. and if you dont like hart matches you need help. the tourney isnt half bad either.

we kick off with the hugely popular razor ramon taking on bam bam bigelow. can last years runner up bam bam go one better this year or will razor ramon get passed the first round unlike last year (both these men lost to bret hart the previous year). its a very good opener.

irs then takes on mabel. is mabel gonna be wrote off or is irs gonna be squashed like a bug by the 500 lb monster. in the other quarter finals we see the 123 kid attempt another upset against the talented jeff jarrett before owen hart tries to follow in his brothers footsteps by taking on tatanka in the other quarter.

the wwf title match takes place next. bret hart vows to have a family member in his corner to thwart shawn michaels in diesels corner. who will it be? will owen finally make it up with bret? is it bulldog/anvil/another hart brother?/stu?/helen? find out. diesel is the reigning intercontinental champ but only brets title is on the line? having jacknifed the hitman weeks prior can diesel do it again and get the big one? classic match. vintage bret, diesel is involved in a great match for once. and full credit to bret for that.

the 2 semi finals are next but i wont say who was in it to give the quarters away. the 2nd of these is a short match but a very good one.

tag champs the headshrinkers then defend the gold against crush/yokozuna. there is a great spot in this match when yoko whacks the steel post causing a headshrinker to suffer a self inflicted low blow. well worked. but which team will win the gold?

the final of the king of the ring takes place. again i wont say who was in it but its another solid match.

the night ends in a bout between roddy piper and jerry lawler. why couldnt the final have ended the whole night? the end of the piper match is badly worked and complete garbage but the fans dont care.

seen this 100s of times so im fed up watching it, but buy it simply to see bret/diesel
