5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice and cheaper than the branded version, 8 Mar. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very nice product and much cheaper than the branded version. I especially like the fact the coat rack can be split into two individual items. Also if you choose to keep the rack as a singe five hook item there are four holes to secure the rack to the wall giving much better stability and resilience. I will recommend this item to friends and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the World of Niche Fragrances, 16 Nov. 2014
I'm surprised there's only been one other review for this amazing product from the Tom Ford Private Blend line. Firstly if you can I recommend testing the product first on your skin and purchasing directly from an authorised retailer to ensure its authenticity. Plus you WILL get samples of other TF fragrances.

Now for the product itself. Rich vanilla with tonka bean, cloves, raisins and other spices and a hint of tobacco leaf. On my skin I definitely get chocolate and the tobacco dies down to a smooth vanilla skin scent. Ideal for Autumn and Winter but not for warm weather. This scent will get you noticed and you will get compliments. Marketed as unisex but very masculine and not a scent which can be worn by young men. You need to be confident and mature to wear this.

The price. Longevity is BEAST. All I need is one spray on the neck and I'm done for the next 12 hours. So unlike cheaper designer fragrances which require three to four sprays which last maybe six hours, this fragrance is robust and projects well for much less juice.

This is a fragrance you would wear to impress a date most definitely. You will not smell like any other man in the room. You will not smell like other guys she has dated before. It's a scent that your date will remember even if she or he won't remember you if the night goes badly. You see .... I'm not saying this scent will suddenly turn you into a sexual God. What it does do is give you that extra level of confidence, and confidence is what this scent exudes.

If you are aged thirty five or over, buy this. Stop wasting money on designer fragrances and leave the 1 Million to the young boys who are just moving away from LYNX body spray. It's time to pay premium prices for niche fragrances, and you will not regret it.

And what juice for Spring and Summer? Two words ... Creed Aventus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Angel is a bloke!?!, 4 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Class Of 99 [DVD] (DVD)
When I first saw this movie on VHS many many moons ago during my period of adolescence I assumed the Angel character was a lass. Now thanks to the wonders of the internet (and IMDB) it has now been bought to my attention that Angel was actually male!!!

Fortunately I was too busy getting distracted by Pam Grier to focus on Angel, so disaster averted. Oh ... and the finale with the terminator robot was excellent.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kevin Smith's Very Own Phantom Menace, 14 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Clerks II [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
I wanted so much to like this film the same way I loved the original Clerks but somehow one single factor just spoiled the movie for me. And that factor was "Elias".

However let's look at what did work. The return of Dante and Randal (along with Jay and Silent Bob) definitely worked and the story and dialogue was pretty good as well. I just wished the movie concentrated solely on Dante and Randal rather than all the time wasted on new character Elias, the LOTR geek.

I just didn't like Elias. To me he's the non-CGI equivalent of Jar Jar Binks in terms of his actual impact to the movie. I mean ... he didn't add anything to the story unlike the Rosario Dawson character. He's simply there for comic relief but when you have such funny characters like Dante and Randal already, what's the point?

Listening to the Director's commentary it's obvious that Kevin Smith still believes Elias is a great character. For me, however, the character is a hindrance to the film. I just wish someone can release an edited version of the movie where they just cut out the scenes where Elias appears.

Soylent Green [DVD] [1973]
Soylent Green [DVD] [1973]
Dvd ~ Charlton Heston
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Bare Chested Charlton Strikes Again, 14 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Soylent Green [DVD] [1973] (DVD)
The companion piece to "The Omega Man". Basically we have 1970s Charlton Heston playing the trademarked character of "1970s Charlton Heston with an Automatic Weapon". This time round he's a policeman in a world were the population explosion never ended and people are literally piled up on top of each other. The world is hot and humid (so Charlton gets to take his shirt off once again) and at the brink of famine. The only food available is soy based products including the infamous Soylent Green.

Anyway Charlton is charged with the investigation into the murder of a high-powered executive of the Soylent Corporation. However the further Charlton delves into this mystery the more apparent it is that nobody wants him to succeed.

A great film and the last film to star Edward G Robinson. The scene between him and Charlton eating beef and an apple is incredibly poignant.

Recommendation: Chances are if you enjoy movies like "The Omega Man" and "Logan's Run" then you've probably already got this in your collection. For those who are unfamiliar with 1970s futureshock movies starring Charlton Heston then I would definitely recommend buying this movie. The only sticking point is Charlton never gets to shoot a machine gun in this film (only a pistol) so if you're looking for proper automatic fire from Charlton I would recommend "The Omega Man" instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why no Vampires?, 14 Aug. 2011
This review is from: I Am Legend [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
I'm perplexed as to why the film-makers decided to jettison the Vampire villians as depicted in the original book by Richard Matheson and replace them by Zombies. Surely the concept of a Vampire and a Zombie are equally far-fetched. Plus the book does go into great lengths to explain how a virus could cause symptoms which are vampiric so the story remained grounded in science fiction rather than the supernatural. Okay ... they used Zombies instead but then why did they then use the generic superfast CGI zombies which have featured in so many other movies ever since "28 Days Later" first started the trend?

So in a nutshell ... good acting from Will Smith and a great first half hour. But the introduction of the generic CGI zombies completely spoiled the movie for me. If I had to choose between this film or "The Omega Man", bare-chested misogynistic Charlton Heston would be picked every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jenny Agutter naked? Yes! Peter Ustinov hairy? Check! Michael York young and lean? You got it!, 14 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Logan's Run [DVD] [1976] (DVD)
Logan's Run is set in a post-apocalyptic future where human beings lead a hedonistic life-style involving lots of orgies and wearing dodgy toga-type clothing. The one minor problem is when you reach 30 years of age you have to go to Carousel, an arena-type stadium, where you find yourself floating up in front of a baying crowd and basically exploding to death. Obviously some cats aren't too happy about this and decide to escape this fate by running away. This is where the sandmen come in (basically the enforcers of Carousel whose one great advantage is they get to wear neat black uniforms instead of a bedsheet) and start hunting down runners blasting them to death with equally neat guns which make a "BWAP" sound.

Logan (played by Michael York) is one such Sandman who finds himself having to infiltrate Sanctuary because the master computer has prematurely aged him to 30 years.

That's about it really but the film really is good. You've got Michael York looking young and thin (and amazingly he still looks the same 30 years later) and you've also got Jenny Agutter taking off her clothes (again). What more can you ask for?? Peter Ustinov looking hairy? Yes ... it's got that too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Irvin Kershner Saved Empire Strikes Back, 14 Feb. 2011
I was channel-hopping and caught Empire on ITV1HD just as the AT AT walkers began their assault on the Rebel Base in Hoth and ended up watching the whole film. And it was just sooooooo good. Compare Empire with any of the Prequels and you can't believe the George Lucas who scripted Empire was the same George Lucas who scripted the prequels! It makes you recognise the significant impact Empire director Irvin Kerschner (the late, great and much missed director) must have had to that movie. In fact the excellent book "The Making of Empire Strikes Back" by J W Rinzler provides insight into how Kerschner provided the humour and drama which is completely lacking in the Prequels. It was Kerschner who gave those great touches like Han Solo giving the Falcon a thump to start the engines and having R2-D2 stand on tiptoe trying to peek into Yoda's hut on Dagobah. One cannot help but wonder what films we would've had if only George Lucas allowed someone else to direct the Prequels, thereby allowing their creative input to tweak the scripts (and boy do those Prequel scripts need tweaking).

The film shown on ITV1HD I believe wasn't true HD (it was merely upscaled) but it still looked great - Luke's lightsaber never looked so blue. I'll definitely be purchasing the Original Trilogy on Blu-Ray and maybe wait for the Prequels to be discounted before getting those discs.

And I learnt something new from the latest viewing of Empire. Admiral Ackbar was not the first character to say IT'S A TRAP! In fact Princess Leia says it first to Luke on Bespin when she catches glimpse of him as they were being led away by stormtroopers. Must say though that Admiral Ackbar says it a lot better (although I wouldn't like to see him wearing the slave outfit worn by Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi).

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Cast Commentary, 5 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Sideways [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
I am addicted to SIDEWAYS. Once a month I always get a strong urge to put on the DVD and watch this movie. It's difficult to explain the reason why I love this film so much. Most definitely the two actors Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church are a major factor. Their characters Miles and Jack are so real that you can't help but relate to them despite their faults.

And I strongly urge you to watch the DVD with the commentary playing in the background. It's almost as if the Miles and Jack were back once again and bantering about their little california wine journey. Honestly I was just laughing out loud throughout the whole commentary as Paul and Thomas traded wittisms all over the place. These two actors have such great chemistry and I'm amazed they haven't been paired up again. Not yet anyway. Author Rex Pickett has finally released his follow-up novel VERTICAL and hopefully director Alexander Payne and the two actors will return sometime soon to our screens.
