was i missing something?, 4 April 2004
I can't help thinking i was missing something whilst reading this book. I have read nearly all of McEwan's novels and have enjoyed each one but this book was very disapointing. As always, McEwan writes briliantly, building up the tension throughout the novel, but the but the revelation of the mystery surrounding the black dogs was an anticlimax. I re-read the book to check i hadn't missed anything vital in the story but sadly i couldn't find a reason for why this event would have left the lead character's mother in law so deeply affected. I would recomend any of McEwan's other books... but not this one!!
