5.0 out of 5 stars You never feel like he is talking down to you nor mentally shaking ..., 13 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the latest of those books that are essential reading for teachers, and indeed parents. David Didau carefully explains why teachers, of which I am one, have to admit to not knowing everything about their profession. But once we admit this Didau then goes on to explain how we may improve. The key to the book, and the most refreshing, is that even though Didau painstakingly explains his point, backed up with hard evidence, he is always aware of dissenting voices and counter arguments. You never feel like he is talking down to you nor mentally shaking his head at your ignorance.
Humorous, balanced, fair and rigorously researched, this is a book for everyone interested in how we 'learn' and how we can improve teaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all., 7 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The first thing that strikes you when you read this book is the simplicity of its ideas. Most of what is talked about happens every day in classes everywhere(I hope) but it's those extra pieces of information, those add ons, that make this required reading for teachers of all subjects, even PE. Never has a book title been so apt.

5.0 out of 5 stars read it, 31 Oct. 2010
One of my top ten books on film. As important as anything by Bazin, but far more entertaining. Massive egos, massive amount of money and a film that has since been revised as a "masterpiece". The film might not actually be a masterpiece but this book comes close.
Cannot recommend it enough for anyone interested in film or simply interested in human behaviour, especially when the ego takes over.
Brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, 31 Oct. 2010
Like the work of Shakespeare himself this series of lectures is timeless. For anyone studying Shakespeare it is also both stimulating and revealing. The language isn't a problem at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, 31 Oct. 2010

This is one of the great works of art from the last century. Mixing Fordian aesthetics into a japanese mindset Kurasawa created a rare work of poetic beauty with intellectual weight.
Watch it now.

4.0 out of 5 stars classic should be read, 8 Jun. 2010
This is a classic for a reason, because many of todays governments have their origins in it, against it, or simply influenced by it. Because of this it should be read. Buy it. It's not that evil, it's not that perfect.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as you'd think, 8 Jun. 2010
I bought this for my 6 year old daughter who is a big fan of the film. A bit of a let down really. Far too many digressions to keep the young reader interested.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, 8 Jun. 2010
This is an excellent book. Beautiful photographs accompanied by a well balanced, short, biography of Thalberg. Well worth it for those who love the classics.

1.0 out of 5 stars avoid, 8 Jun. 2010
this is a futile read for anyone interested in Chandler. I'm not really sure what the point of this is, other then self indulgence. Leave now and browse elsewhere.
