This review is from: Armada (Hardcover)
Wasn't what sure what to expect going in, I've grown increasingly cold to Ready Player One since I first listened to it (preferred the audio book to the paperback) due to the constant nerd-drops and the huge change in the character's status quo mid-novel.
But it's good, technically a much stronger written novel despite the mixed reviews, the nerd-drops still feel forced in places but they're not as thick and fast as RP1, and are usually part of banter rather than "I recognise that thing" observations, but the actual narrative arc is very strong (despite 99% of the novel impossibly taking place in a single day) and has some nice ideas for the third act. The main character feels very different to me than the protagonist in Rp1, so I'm not sure if Wil Wheaton was the right choice for the audiobook, so I'll leave that this time.
Recommended though, and not half as much a Last Starfighter cut and paste as it first seems.

Ernest Cline Scary Door summary: I feel like I wasted my whole life in the frivolous pursuit of trivial things. Turns out I needed those skills to save the world. Having saved the world, it's a real shame I no longer enjoy those trivial things. Hang on, maybe they were the point of life all along?

Frumpy The Clown Volume 2: The Fat Lady Sings

Expanding from the groundwork laid out in Frumpy vol. 1, we now see Judd Winick as an accomplished cartoonist at the top of his game. The characters are more bedded in, and the foundations for the stories are firmly in place and we can now enjoy the characters comfortably in the situations they encounter.

Fantastic stuff, and right up there with Dilbert, Peanuts, Garfield, Liberty Meadows in terms of strip humour, and reminiscent of Calvin and Hobbes it never shies away from the more harsher aspects of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic series by an amazing cartoonist, 21 Feb. 2016
A fantastic series by an amazing cartoonist. You can actually watch the work evolve in front of your eyes as this artist grows and masters his craft. Stunning stuff, and hilariously funny too.
I highly recommend this to people who enjoy the craft of the amazing Calvin and Hobbes, as well as the irreverent humour of Rick and Morty and South Park.

A great book, taking a fun romp through history with one of the classic movie monsters on-board the biggest movie box-office monsters. What's not to love?
Well written, with great attention to detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas, well executed, which build a clear tapestry of humanity's future., 28 Nov. 2015

I really enjoyed the layout of the book, and each self contained short story helped build a tapestry of a world which was technologically "progressing" faster and faster at the cost of the human experience. This concept is near and dear to my way of thinking. The story was very well executed, with minimalist spartan text throughout which I loved.
About halfway through I started to wonder where the writer was going, and if they could land a satisfying conclusion after such an eclectic blend of shorts, as he had left the reader with no clear protagonist to root for, and indeed, all of the events that built towards the conclusion had seldom been affected by the choices of the characters throughout the text, instead humanity was unwillingly whisked (slept-walked) towards the stories conclusion. The ending was a conclusion of sorts, but I didn't feel I was with the character on his journey and his final decision seemingly came from nowhere, almost as if the character felt he had to do something as he knew the end of the novel was fast approaching.

Overall, a lot of great ideas and a clever build, enough to make me check out other works by the same writer!

You know what you're getting when you sign of for more Stan and Jack, the second longest running creative collaboration on a Marvel book.

Great science fiction adventure with Marvel's first family. Why bother with crappy movies when you can go straight to the source.

Great fun. Absolutely catches the flavour of Futurama, and a great sci-fi romp through the world of Springfield.

Has all the classic Simpsons tropes, without the crushing disappointment of the writing from season 12 onwards.

Great fun, action romp with characters you now and love.

It won't win any awards, and it won't change the characters or the industry (things will definitely be the same again(!)), but it's an enjoyable read. If you love the characters as much as I do, check this out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for someone, just not for me., 7 Aug. 2015

There is nothing wrong with this book, it's just completely unecessary to the SSCW storyline.

I was interested in the main story and volume one because I love Dexter, Samurai Jack, and the Powerpuff Girls (I missed Ben 10 due to being an old git, but am at least familiar with him), however, I'm less a fan of Grim and Mandy, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo et al.

If you enjoy those characters as much - or more than the characters in volume one, I'm sure you will love volume 2.

The DVD is great, as it features 3 of the best episodes of the series.

As a hardcore South Park fan, I already had these episodes, and I bought this set literally for the new "full length£ commentary by Trey and Matt. Unfortunately, the commentary is only about half hour long. Disappointing.

If you've not got the episodes in your collection, or have yet to see them, this is a five star MUST HAVE purchase.

If you have the season boxsets, this is probably surplus to requirements except to the most hardcore of SP fans.
