A pretty ropey recording. Poor quality. A good advert for only purchasing recordings from record labels you've heard of.

Awful recording. Sounds like the microphone was in a bucket closer to a wheezy audience than the artists on the stage. A shame, I heard Verrett on Poppano's Classical Voices programme and she was wonderful. You wouldn't know it from this effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars not very exciting, 22 Nov. 2013

After a few chapters I'm afraid I found the format of re-hashing past reviews a bit tedious. There's no common bond and whilst individually there are some thought provoking pieces, the sum is less than the parts. Good economics though, getting paid again for your re-treads is a good lesson in this austere age.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating insight, 8 Dec. 2009
I would never have imagined that a "whodunnit" where you know who did it could ever provide such a riveting read. Jeff and Liz's account of the gruesome murders is meticulously researched and succeeds brilliantly in creating a tangible evocation of time and place in early post war London.

Equally impressive is their ability to get inside the minds of the tortured killer and the investigator for whom this was a grisly introduction to the arts of detection.

I was particularly struck by the latter's ability to empathise not only with the victims but also with the perpetrator, giving the story an added humanity and psychological edge.

A great read and I look forward with eager anticipation to the next collaboration between Jeff and Liz.
