5.0 out of 5 stars Nice micro-game - good introduction to inductive reasoning for kids., 26 Nov. 2015

This review is from: Love Letter Card Game (Toy)
Really nice micro-game - 15-20 minute play time.

Again, suitable for kids, as the themes of the game are about getting a letter to the princess. There isn't any monsters or fighting to contend with.

One of the best games I've come across for teaching inductive reasoning, and serves as a good introduction to the concepts of hidden information. Because each player only has a hand of 1 card, it's possible to deduce information about what that card is by what plays they make.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game - perfect for kids, but with hidden depth., 26 Nov. 2015

Great micro game - takes about 20-25 minutes to play. Really small, easily transportable.

The tin was a little loose when it arrived, but it's also malleable enough that a small amount of pressure got the lid back to a tight fit.

Helps teach strategy, memory and card counting. The fun and vibrant colours are great for kids, as is the theme. Unlike a lot of other games, there's no 'monsters' or fighting. Thematically it's purely based around trying to make the most delicious sushi combinations.

My ONLY criticism would be that you need a pen and paper for the scoring, but the tin is just a little too small to store this as well, so they have to be carried separately.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the original, 26 Nov. 2015

So you don't need the original to play this one, and in my opinion, this version helped solve some of the slightly unbalanced aspects of the first game in the series.

Although void tends to still be quite weak, there is now a much nicer balance between lifebound, mechana and enlightened. Each strategy now plays very differently as well. Lifebound now gives you bonuses for having additional lifebound heros in your deck. Mechana has much more emphasis on destroying your constructs for effects, and then bringing them back quickly from the discard pile using other cards. Enlightened is now the card filtering machine, with almost half of the enlightened cards being card draw of one form or another. A totally legit strategy now being to only get mystics for the buying power, and enlightened to keep filtering your hand until you have 5 mystics.

Overall a great improvement on the first game.

Still works best as a 2 player game, although that's only my personal preference.

This is basically 'project management' the board game.

If that sounds boring, this isn't the game for you.

If, however, you like arguing with people about how much of a budget should be spend resourcing various components of play before the next turn; all whilst a clock counts down for you to reach consensus, and then having to live with the consequences of your bad decisions, then welcome to the game for you.

Seriously, this is so good for team-building, I'm considering buying a copy for work.

Ultra Pro Dual Deck Box [Toy]

5.0 out of 5 stars Good box - perfect for drafting., 26 Nov. 2015

Really handy deckbox

The two compartments are clearly separated, and big enough to fit a fully sleeved deck and sideboard each.

I use mine for draft night - one compartment to fit a base of lands to take with me. The other compartment for the booster packs and set of dice and counters.

Overall, it's a really affordable, and easily transportable box.

Velcro seal on the front, so won't come open in your bag.

Kentish Oils Extra Virgin Rapeseed Oil Blended with Lemon 500 ml
Kentish Oils Extra Virgin Rapeseed Oil Blended with Lemon 500 ml

5.0 out of 5 stars Made of win, 26 Nov. 2015

This is now the only cooking oil I use - true story.

Obviously, pairs best with non-game poultry like chicken and turkey. Also for roast dinners to give a little bit of 'lightness' to the flavour for roasted vegetables.

Being rapeseed oil, it has the usual benefits of the smoke point being slightly higher than for lard - but that's really a personal preference around how a roast dinner should taste.

1.0 out of 5 stars No. Just no., 26 Nov. 2015

Such bad quality - these have a longer protrusion in the base than the other clearomisers I've bought previously, which means they only just fit into a Kangertech battery (even though the thread is fine, the height is slightly off). This means you get very, very light pull from them.

However, even then you'll almost immediately start scratching at your throat as the sensation of burning plastic fills your lungs.

Save your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little unbalanced - could do with a tweak to the rules., 29 July 2015

This review is from: Revolution! Board Game (Toy)
Revolution is a blind bidding game.

Each turn begins with all players setting out bids for resources on a grid, and then each wager in turn is resolved, with the person bidding the highest winning that resource. These resources can then be used to bid for further resources in subsequent rounds.

I love the idea of this game, and I bought it after watching a let's play online.

However, there is a severe balance problem with this game - it is far too easy for one player to begin dominating. There are some resources you can bid on, which essentially require the resources won from previous rounds. If you didn't win those resources in your previous round, then you really can't bid for those items, and so your failed bids from round 1, can compound over subsequent rounds. If you start getting behind in this game, it is almost impossible to come back!

I think there really needs to be some sort of additional resource gathering elements to the game (like for example spending influence to gain extra Blackmail or Force tokens to use in a bidding round) - these can, of course, be added as house-rules, but the base game nevertheless has problems.
