5.0 out of 5 stars Stunts for Real, 19 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Wings (1927) (DVD)
Arguably the best and last great non-talking picture (and the first Oscar winner in 1927), this is worth seeing for the novelty value alone. William Wellman directed the picture having flown as a pilot in World War One. The stunts were real with Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen operating the camera whilst in the aircraft. To see a picture with no spoken dialogue seems unusual now but it does demonstrate how this was a different art form, personified by Clara Bow who could express personality and emotion without having to say a word, which given her accent was no bad thing. Thank you Bill Bryson for bringing me to watch this motion picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits the job - a standard Windows 10 desktop tower PC, 13 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a Windows 10 PC this is just fine - what it is to have a desktop again after years of laptops!

The performance is perfectly acceptable - I'd expected I'd need more RAM but maybe not yet as it's fine with just the 4GB. I'm not doing development work on it, gaming or producing videos. Am using web browsers, watching DVDs, iTunes and a mail client and that is all I need it for.

I was also impressed by how light the machine is to carry. Setup took just over an hour to get started, Windows updates and get AV loaded onto it.

I would buy this model again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Bryson Tour de Facts, 30 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great journey through the USA of 1927. From the Spirit of St Louis to Jack Dempsey's heavyweight title fights - it's all in here. Bryson loves his baseball though - you might need a primer on the sport for a lot of the statistics.

3.0 out of 5 stars Phone OK - no working memory card slot, 22 Jan. 2012
This phone is fine as a phone, a camera (still and video), music player/FM radio and a very fine torch. However, in my case the memory card slot is redundant and I must take it back to a Samsung Repair centre if i wish to use a memory card with it.

Curiously I know a colleague at work who bought the same model from Vodafone and the memory card slot is fine on their's.

Apart from the memory card issue, I'd recommend the phone - it's a bit slow when composing texts as the software struggles to keep up with your keypresses. It's a good phone for being out and about, especially during dark winter mornings and evenings when the torch is very effective.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - But Wheres Aunty Maggie?, 30 May 2004
Looked forward to getting this one. First impressions are not good given that whoever did the liner notes couldn`t find a picture of Florence Desmond to go with the caption. Bit sloppy. Never mind though, it's the music that matters. The older tracks are of great interest. As with any compilation you're always left wondering why some have been left out. In this case it's "Aunty Maggie's Remedy" that's missing. In spite of the drawbacks I'd recommend this collection to any Formby fan.

I was suggested to look at Boogie Up The River by a work colleague - both this and 500 Mile Walkies are wonderfully funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and down-to-earth, 29 Dec. 2000
This review is from: Reminder (Hardcover)
This biography really comes across as being written by Dennis with little interference. The pre-Sweeney section uncovers what a star-studded career he has had, and those he has met or worked with.

Having bought the album whilst at school I've been looking for this on CD ever since. Excellent bonus tracks which weren`t on V+P!
