4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing read for an open-minded audience., 23 Sept. 2017

This short book is certainly interesting and touches on a multitude of controversial and popularly little understood topics. The read will most likely be only appreciated by a more open-minded audience interested in learning about the controversial vistas of our reality.

Alien Threat from the Moon
Alien Threat from the Moon
Price: £2.93

2.0 out of 5 stars Blurry photos diminish author's thesis, 19 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is intriguing having regard to its contentions about the existence of superior extraterrestrial beings on the Earth's celestial satellite, the Moon. However, the vast majority of the photos in the book are too blurry to lend any credence to the author's various claims. In that regard, the book is disappointing and evidentially inconclusive. Notwithstanding these remarks, there are a small portion of more convincing photos that do manage to pique one's curiosity regarding purported extraterrestrial activity on the Moon; however, nothing is proved definitively.

Blood Rubber: How the Amazon Died (Kindle Single)
Blood Rubber: How the Amazon Died (Kindle Single)
Price: £1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Poignant narrative about the Amazonian rubber industry, 16 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book is a brief study of the Amazonian rubber industry, especially prior to the 1920s. It is a classic narrative of one man's intrepid heroism pitted against the brutal, barbaric savagery of the Peruvian Amazon Company, as it systematically exploited, physically mutilated, murdered and raped the indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin. The book charts the eventual defeat of unadulterated evil and the belated demise of the PAC. A truly tragic tale, but nothing that we have not read or heard about before.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating look at deep space exploration., 10 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This short book is an intriguing survey of deep space exploration, and the sometimes futile quest for "new, exotic physics" to definitely rationalise and explain universal phenomena. A worthy read for anyone interested in astronomy and astrophysics, irrespective of occupational background and educational attainment. Recommended reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating primer on Quantum Mechanics, 25 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The author presents an intriguing insight into the enigmatic realm of quantum mechanics. He charts the development of theoretical and experimental subatomic physics, and discusses one of the central mysteries of the quantum world, epitomised by the single-electron double slit diffraction experiment, which seemingly confirms the particle-wave duality of electrons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting insight into the "dark Internet", 20 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A highly recommended, thought-provoking read regarding the dysfunctional dynamics of the "dark internet" and blogosphere, with especial reference to a high-profile, international murder case. The author posits that "altruistic punishment" was a contributory factor in the development of a cybermob mentality set against the accused in this murder case.

Modern Ireland: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
Modern Ireland: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
Price: £5.03

5.0 out of 5 stars Predominately political discourse on Ireland, 21 July 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Senia Paseta gives a very insightful account of the tortuous political evolution of Ireland over the centuries, primarily from 1840s to the current day. The book briefly explores the fraught relationship of Ireland with its partitioned neighbour, Northern Ireland. Indeed, it is virtually impossible to render a comprehensive account of Irish politics, history, socio-cultural dynamics, foreign relations, and other pertinent matters in such a short book; but the Oxford introduction does provide a fascinating insight into the political, economic, and cultural development of Ireland over the centuries, thereby helping to somewhat explain the current complexion of the country, and its improving relations with Northern Ireland and Britain. Overall, I would recommend this book as a basic primer on Ireland.

Modern China: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
Price: £4.74

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent precis of Chinese historical conflicts and contemporary aspirations, 5 July 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an excellent prime on the history of dynastic, Nationalist, Communist and post-Cold War China. The author covers a whole panoply of topics, from war to economic factors, cultural influences, the evolution of the Chinese Communist Party over the decades, and the overbearing role of the State in moulding and styling the modernistic society that is developing in China during the 21st century. This book is highly commended as a short introduction to China, for student, businessperson and layperson alike. Good value for money, and relatively easy to read.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The authoress captures the essence and potential potency of Vision Boards in an easy-to-read format that is both inspirational and uplifting. After reading the e-book, I am almost convinced to create a experimental Vision Board myself, to determine what happens going forward. I love the gallery of sample Vision Boards incorporated into the body of the text.

Civilization: The West and the Rest
Civilization: The West and the Rest
Price: £7.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating critique of Western Civilisation., 30 Nov. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found this book, "The West and the Rest" to be an incredibly and worthwhile insight into Western pre-eminence in the modern era. I have learned about historical events that shaped the modern world - no small feat to distill the salient historical factors into one book. I would not agree entirely with all of the author's contentions, but I would highly commend the book to anyone interested in the evolution of Western society.
